Mikki Kaline - District 8 (Complete)

Mikki stands at 6 feet tall, although he could probably add an extra inch if it weren't for his poor posture. His slouching shoulders come from the fatigue that set in on him at an early age from inadequate amounts of sleeping and eating, not to mention the enormous responsibility of caring for most of his family, while holding an extremely high pressure job. Tiredness manifests itself in several other of his features as well. He looks a good couple of years older than he should. A sprinkle of grey hairs have begun to reveal themselves. His hair is a very dark brown, which often comes off as a soft black after a few days without a good wash. His eyes while being a striking blue-green with long spider leg eyelashes which catch a good amount of flattery on a daily basis, are tired and no longer glimmer as they did in his childhood. His skin is fair, longing for sunshine, but because of his demanding work schedule, he is barely lucky enough to soak in an hour as he travels between the factory, the design headquarters, and the market. His family, widely known and highly regarded amongst District 8, is known more for their long lineage rather than their wealth. Under all of the layers of vintage luxury garments handed down from his father, grandfather, great-grandfather and so forth he is actually shockingly thin. On each finger he wears small wire rings made by his mother, bent intricately into shapes and symbols and patterns, giving the illusion of elegance. Since most of his work deals with important and wealthy clientele he makes a point to keep clean and neat to the best of his abilities.

Mikki takes on a lot of stress, and it shows through his personality. A perpetual worrier, he moves quickly in everything he does, and can sometimes come off as cold or rude when he is working under pressure. He was taught proper etiquette and manners, and to always keep your head down around officials, and to always obey his orders. Resulting, he is quite humble, and patient. He is an only child, who lives with his mother and father, both of whom have been unfit for work for years due to chronic illness that have left them weak and tired, which forced him to grow up early. He is quite mature, and while never having spent much time in school, is an eloquent speaker. Mikki is rather anti-social, but this is mostly due to his heavy workload rather than his disdain for people. He actually rather enjoys conversation, amongst other things like fashion, art, and reading. His self-sacrificing attitute is conflicted with his almost daily acts of thievery, however it is the most efficient way he is able to feed his family. At first, Mikki carried a lot of guilt about stealing, along with fear of being caught which would surely mean death, however, he is not skilled nor possesses the ability to kill like the other boys his age who sneak out of the district to hunt for food when they cannot afford it. While he often feels anxious and disheartened of his family's position, he is thankful for what he has, and realizes he has it better than most in his district.

The Kaline family is one of the oldest families to have lived and stayed in District 8. From the beginning, his grandmother took on a highly sought designer position in a factory that catered to the upperclass citizens, as well as Capitol officials. The Haus of Kaline was established, and was successful for generations. Their knowledge and craftwork with velvet was highly sought out by citizens of the Capitol. However, as industry rebuilt itself and technology began to better replace the craftwork of a couture designer, the Haus of Kaline slowly drifted into bankrupcy, and eventually was sold. The Kalines however, kept up the tradition of designing and velvet making, which kept them in a well standing amongst their local customers, and they have been able to fend themselves quite alright, until recently when Mikki's parents became victim to pneumonia that has been slowly breaking them down for years, rendering them incapable of work, and extremely expensive to take care of. And so, Mikki has taken on the position of designer who works almost around the clock catering to several clients including the Mayor's wife, and daughter, as well as representatives for the stylists of the Hunger Games.

Nobody in Mikki's family has been selected as tribute for the Hunger Games. He has never accepted the tessarae.
