Elm Wintergreen District 7

Elm has dark blonde hair and bluish green eyes that contain small fragments of hazel closer to the iris. He stands around 5’10, has well defined facial features, and has a fairly tan complexion as a result of his constant outside exposure to the sun. Due to his lumbering obligations in his district, he has a muscular build and rough calloused hands. Typically he is capable of lifting a little 100 lbs over his head but rarely uses his strength for anything more than lugging trees back and forth throughout his district. At the age of thirteen he acquired a disturbing and very noticeable scar that runs across his left arm from during a chopping incident. He typically hides it with long sleeved shirts and is a bit self-conscious of it.

While he does have a muscular / sturdy build, Elm is also agile for someone with his strength and shows fairly impressive dexterity as well. In a separate but equally disturbing incident, Elm accidently cut off his left pinky and part of his ring finger while sawing timber in his family’s stationary factory. This made wielding most things in his left hand harder. When it comes to clothing, he is not fashionable and considers comfort and practicality over all us, which typically leaves him with sneakers, jeans, and a few layers of shirts.

Elm is very charismatic and knows how to play to people’s logic and emotion. He has always been very resourceful and knows just how to manipulate situations to his favor. He often makes his presence known when in large groups of people and overall is the farthest thing from shy. Some might view him as a bit of a show off due to the fact he typically enjoys attention.

Elm is brave to a fault at times and finds most careers to be weak and cowardly for fighting in packs. In his mind, all is fair in the Hunger Games so long as you don’t gang up on the weak. He personally feels that a fight is much nobler if it is one on one but will work with others to take out career tributes. His one lethal flaw is his arrogance. He is aware of the skills he possesses and hardly is humble.

Elm typically uses humor and sarcasm to make light of most situations and often hides any emotions he considers “weak.” He at times can be viewed as cold and aloof for using humor during grim situations but those who know him understand that it is only a defense mechanism to help him deal with uncomfortable feelings. He hates being vulnerable and while he may experience grief or sadness, he makes it a point to not let most people notice when he is upset. Since Elm is emotionally guarded, he hardly trusts others but is not above working with someone to accomplish a common goal so long as he maintains a distance.

Elm is the oldest of three and is very protective of his younger brothers. His family runs a small stationary company that helps supply the capital with all sorts of paper goods. While his family never struggled too much to produce food on the kitchen table, Elm learned the values of hard work at a very young age. He has been responsible for helping chop down trees with his father, younger siblings, and cousins ever since he turned 12 years old. His family’s business is one of many in his district which creates a lot of stress for competition. Each year he pushes to help the companies produce more and is constantly trying to help his family stay on top of the lumbering industry.

Elm attends school just like all of the other kids his age. He has a few good friends but has avoided most romantic involvement out of fear of the reaping. Ever since he became of age, Elm has grown more and more afraid of the tribute drawing each year. He hardly lets anyone see his fear however and constantly uses humor to hide his true feelings. At a young age he lost one of his cousins to the games a few years back.

Ever since then, Elm has always worried each year about being chosen next for the reaping. He secretly practiced improving his proficiency with throwing and hand held axes while he was working with his family. He also made it a point to learn from his father which plants in his district should he should always avoid while chopping wood. If he was to ever be chosen, he refused to make his death easy for the careers.
