Age: 16
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 7
Appearance:
Eoghan is 5ft 9" and weighs 155 pds. He is of average build but due to the poor living standards and economy in the 7th District, he is fairly underfed but he is better off in size than many of his friends from school. Though due to his district's trade in lumber, he has found a job in cutting trees and dissecting the wood, from this his arms and shoulders are big and powerful. He is consistently told by his friends that his hands remind them of 'shovels'.Personality:
He is fairly tanned from the endless hours of cutting wood with the sun bearing down on his back. He has blue eyes and brown hair which is fairly long but thin, it gathers in spikes around his head where the ends touch his eyebrows and the sides touch his ears while the bottom touch half way down his neck. He looks very young which is where his first name derives from 'Youth'. He wears a plain green V-neck top with brown raggedy shorts and complete with sandals.
He can swim and is a moderate runner but isn't that quick as he usually stands in a spot cutting up wood but he is immensely strong for his age due to this process and has precise but neat hands as he has to cut thick wood in exactly the right place or it turns into a hash and can take a considerable amount of time to hack at the wood.
Eoghan is usually a calm and collect individual but can be easily frustrated when he can't perform tasks that he feels should be easy to accomplish which is derived from missing the point of a piece of wood meaning he has to spend minutes hacking at the piece. He normally minds his own business but when people get up into his face and disturb his personal space then he can get nasty very quick. Due to this, he hasn't got many friends and has grown to resent other people due to his loneliness.History:
Unlikely for someone growing up in a considerably poor district, he doesn't have much empathy towards people who cry about their lives and believes they should deal with the cards they are dealt and not complain about it. He is a firm believer in this way of thinking, he doesn't tell people about his worries or pain so he expects the same 'respect' from other people so naturally, when people 'open up' to him, he acts cold and shoulders them off as he feels awkward around emotional people. He is well spoken but knows when to keep his mouth shut in appropriate situations.
He can make friends with people who are similar to him, who are strong physically and emotionally. These are traits that he judges other people on, he calculates their worth and how useful they can be to him but due to his years of loneliness, he works well by himself and doesn't care for friends as he has gone through life without them so he feels he has no need for them.
Eoghan was a normal kid growing up in District 7 but there was one defining moment in his life where his life was changed and that happened during the 'Accident'.Codeword:
Eoghan was born on the first day of Spring which befitted his surname 'Cerelia' which means Spring Baby. He was born into a poor but loving family who couldn't afford much food and gave what they could to Eoghan while they went hungry but they couldn’t keep this lifestyle going for long and they soon died. The family who they were closet with his family decided to adopt the baby out of kindness and secretly to raise a normal child. This was because his adopted family had one other son called Callin, he was 4 years older than Eoghan but he was mentally impaired but nonetheless, Eoghan grew up to become great friends with his step-brother.
When they were ten, they were wandering about the great redwood forest in District 7 but there was an awful bang that the pair of boys heard which was reminiscent of a gunshot they had heard years ago during a public execution of a poacher, Callin had started screaming and wouldn’t sleep for a week afterwards so Eoghan had expected his step-brother’s reaction.
Callin started screaming and crying frantically, Eoghan tried to comfort his brother but he just ignored him and went running off without direction but Eoghan spotted him from afar and predicted Callin was running towards the work area where the workers were cutting down the great redwoods, which Eoghan feared that one might be coming down soon and within a couple of minutes, Eoghan saw the first redwood to fall and witnessed in horror as the first tree began to collide with others to create a ‘domino effect’. This ended in three other trees to fall and Eoghan heard his brother screaming again and Eoghan just stopped and stared in a trance looking at the trees which were falling in his direction but fell about 25 metres short of him but he heard an awful squashing sound which made up throw up against the tree he was leaning on. He went to investigate and found his brother's undisguised hand bent in an awkward position while he knew the rest of his body was lying under the wreck.
The other workers came over to see their handy work and were shocked to see Eoghan just standing half a metre from the wreckage, pale faced and unaware of his surroundings as he just stood stock still in shock, they soon discovered the body and pulled Eoghan quickly from the scene and brought him to his parents, explained the situation and tried to get information from Eoghan but he was still in shock. The family mourned for days but his adopted parents came out of their depression in a matter of two weeks, Eoghan suspected they had quickly nettled themselves into this new lifestyle of not having to deal with a ‘nuisance’ of their mentally impaired son which made Eoghan begin to resent the parents who adopted him.
It took him months to get over the death of his brother, in that time he wouldn’t speak to any of his friends in school and closed all social connections. He was engulfed by sadness and loneliness but he never shed a tear, he didn’t know how to feel as his brother was his only true connection so he grew to resent everyone, even his brother who he believed had left him by himself. After evaluating his life, he deemed himself unsatisfied with this ‘eking’ through life only to die at the end for nothing, he decided he had not need for other people and ‘friends’ as they had caused most of the pain in his life – his parents had died because they cared for their son rather than themselves, his best-friends and brother had died and no one seemed to care.
This when he began to taken notice of the Hunger Games, they pitted 24 teenagers against each other in a test of survival where only one could win, the winners were lavished with love and respect by all the districts and given all the money they could ever desire – they were even provided with a house in a cordoned off part of the district with other rich people. This was a fantasy that Eoghan couldn’t get out of his head, in theory the prospects and winnings seem wondrous - even worth the risk but he wasn’t completely delusional as he also knew chances of winning were slim and anyone not from a career district were not favoured to win the contest of survival. When he was 12, he signed up for tesserae to get grain and oil for his family but deep down, he knew the primary reason for signing himself up for tesserae was to increase his chances of entering the Hunger Games but even this fact, he lied to himself about and repeated he was doing it to supply food and money for his family.
