Personality:
Timber, like many other working-class citizens of District 7 have straight dark brown hair. When his hair is untouched by his Aunt, it hangs just above his shoulders, but during special occasions like the reaping, his hair is slicked back with tree-sap and water. He inherited his pale complexion from his mother, which is unusual for District 7, since most people are tanned from working in the forest. Timber can be outside for hours, but his skin never tans. He inherited his father’s hazel eyes, which can only be described as deep as the forest, and harsh as the blade of an axe. During the winter months, most men from the district grow a beard to keep their face warm, and Timber is no exception.
His body is the district average, though he’s a little bit more rounded than most men. He has thick chest hair, which is normal for the lumberjack district. Timber’s body stands at 5’8, and weighs about 156 pounds. His gathering job makes him lift heavy lumber, so his arms are more toned. There are a couple of old scars from axe games he’d played as a kid.
Since Timber’s family isn’t rich by any means, he doesn’t have much for clothes. His casual wear is pair of faded blue jeans with black and red plaid shirt, and grey sneakers. Then his work uniform is bright orange pants with a matching t-shirt. And his formal clothes consist of his father’s old reaping clothes. A white shirt with grey pants.
Timber’s parents died during an uprising that occurred after a Hunger Game, and he was raised by his mother’s older sister, Susan. The sudden death of his parents forced Timber to grow up a lot sooner than other children in the area, and has hardened him as an individual. The only time it seems Timber would get depressed about not having his parents would be on district holidays, since his friends would be occupied with their families. His Aunt always tried to plan something to get Timber’s mind off his parents, but it would always be in vain. Timber would spend those days wandering the town alone. Timber would rather deflect his problems, and bottle them up, than address them to anyone else.History:
He has always been good with intuition, which allows him to grasp concepts very easily, unlike most of his friends. He can see the injustice the Capitol pushes on his district, while his friends are more interested in more elementary topics. Timber is perfectly aware that he’s a slave to the capitol, and the only way he’ll ever leave District 7 is through a death sentence. When he ever tries to confront his Aunt about the Capitol, she just says, “That big brain of yours will get you in trouble one day”. Timber likes to think about everything, which his Aunt has noted that his father was the same way.
Timber’s introspection and the Capitol’s control of his life have made him a very meek. He finds it hard to fight for things he feels passionate about, since it is futile to go against what the Capitol has planned for you. Timber wishes he could be more proactive, but he’s afraid he’ll share the same fate as his parents.
Unbeknownst to his friends; Timber loves to write, from journal entries to short stories. Timber gets most of his ideas from working in the forest, which has got Timber in trouble a couple times for slacking off from his gathering duties. He also likes to paint, but painting is a lot harder to do since the supplies are very scarce. The reason why he doesn’t tell his friends about his hobby is they’ll think he’s a pansy, and just pester him.
Since his Aunt can no longer work due to her Arthritis; Timber’s income is the only thing that’s keeping him and his Aunt from being homeless. He can’t afford to stir up trouble, or skip work with his friends. Timber can be very predictable since he’ll always do the honest thing, even though he really doesn’t want to. It is good that he’s dependable, but his friends have called him a “party-pooper,” or a “wet-blanket”. Timber’s demeanour is very dry and cynical, and from time to time, he does show a laugh.
Timber Adams was born in District 7 sixteen years ago to two loving parents, Mark and Stacey, but their life as a family was dramatically cut short. When Timber was two years old, his mother was killed by a peacekeeper trying to keep control of the town’s square. She was bludgeoned multiple times by a peacekeeper’s baton until she passed out on the ground. His father was suspected to be culprit that started the uprising. He was subdued by the peacekeepers, and then sent off to the Capitol for questioning about his “terrorist plot”.Codeword: ODAIR
His mother’s older sister, Susan, took guardianship of Timber, since Mark’s family was notoriously known for criminal dealings throughout District 7. She wanted to make sure that Timber was going to be raised properly, and grow up to be a fine lumberjack like his father. Another reason why Susan decided to take her sister’s son was for companionship. Her husband Arthur died when a tree fell on top of him, and they weren’t married long enough to produce children. Susan found it ironic that she raising a boy named Timber, and her husband’s death happened because somebody forgot to yell, “Timber”.
As a child, Timber would help his Aunt plant saplings through the clear fields. Her job consisted of replanting new trees to replace the ones that got cut down. She couldn’t afford a babysitter, so Timber usually always had to go with her. One of Timber’s earliest memories would be having picnics under large oak trees with his Aunt Susan. They would enjoy bread and strawberry jam. Picnics were a rarity since they couldn’t afford lunch all the time.
By the time Timber turned 6 years old, he was expected to go to school. It is expected that district children go to school to learn the district trade, which would be forestry. The Capitol gives you a test, and then sorts you for your particular role. Timber was sorted for the gathering field. His job was to transfer lumber from the forest to the warehouses. The Capitol also taught their standard version of basic education. History classes consisted of the Capitol history; math problems usually consisted of questions about lumber, etc.
Timber made plenty of friends in school, even though he kept to himself a lot. He was hardly in trouble, but his main group of friends were constant troublemakers. The only time he got in trouble was when his friend accidently cut his arm with an axe, but that was basically it. Academically he wasn’t the greatest since he was really interested in studying the different types of wood in the area. Timber would just do what was expected, and just barely pass. Reading Capitol regulated fantasy books was his favourite pastime, and sometimes he would write his own stories when nobody was paying attention to him.
When Timber turned 12 he was eligible for the Hunger Games, and could be reaped. He started taking tessera for him and his Aunt Susan. His name would be entered twice each year. Timber never felt too worried to get reaped, since he knew some of his friends had to get more tessera. Sometimes before the reaping, Timber and his friend would practice throwing axes for fun.
When Timber turned 15 he finished school, and then expected to work in the lumber yards. His Aunt Susan retired once Timber started working. She couldn’t work anymore because her legs were becoming weak because of Arthritis. He has so far worked for the district for a year.
Just after he turned 16 he received an anonymous letter. It was slipped under his front door. Timber read the letter, and it stated that his father was still alive after all these years. He became an Avox, and is working for a family in the Capitol. Timber needed to see him!
The only way he would be able to leave the District is to become a tribute for a Hunger Game. Ever since he received the letter, he’s been training secretly at night. Timber doesn’t want to worry his Aunt, and his friends will think he’s insane. He knows that he’ll probably die during the games, since the Careers have been training since they were young. Winning the games is not important, but he’s not going down without a fight. Seeing his dad one more time is what is important.
