Appearance:
The first thing that many people often notice about Poppy Oletto is her face. Like many girls in her district, she has brown eyes and ruddy skin; her features make her look innocent and sweet. Her eyes are rounded and wide, as if in an expression of innocence at all times, they lay in perfect symmetry under thick and well maintained eyebrows. That puts her button like nose in the center of her face over full, but strangely narrow lips which are always strangely upturned in an amused expression.Personality:
Poppy’s innocent face is surrounded by a mass of slightly bushy and soft hair. Her bangs fall right over her eyebrows and her hair then proceeds to reach her mid torso. The color of her hair is a dark brown, like the bark on a tree, and also like the bark of a tree, it is coarse from the lack of shampoos and conditioners. So, to save herself time and trouble, she pulls her hair into a loose and messy bun, leaving her bangs to fall into her face delicately. But at other times, such as when she works, her hair is in two tight, uniform pigtails.
She is athletic in shape, her body is muscular, and her arms are short and wiry, her legs are muscled and toned. These attributes make her stronger than the average girl. Her muscles are her pride and joy. She can carry up to seventy five pounds for a few miles. Her weight is about one hundred and twenty six pounds and she is five foot four inches tall, her stomach is slightly inverted from the lack of food due to being in District Seven, one of the poorer districts. Although pretty, Poppy often tried to hide that fact because she wished to be taken seriously.
Her usual outfit is a hunter green long sleeve shirt with many patches and mends in it, with dark brown pants and very worn and old leather boots. She doesn’t have many good things to wear, but it does not bother her. When going to a reaping she wears a dark green dress, one that belonged to her deceased mother. She despises makeup, shaving, and any form of making yourself look better than you do. It aggravates her.
Poppy is unbelievably shy towards others, while other girls are laughing with one another, she sits on the side, not saying a word, but thinking silently to herself. She has a very quick temper, but she prefers to keep that side to herself. She would hate to think of what people would assume of her if she exploded on them. Poppy tries to help others when she can, but she knows when to step down and keep away. She has always been watchful, keeping an eye on everyone, not trusting anyone other than her father.History:
Poppy’s untrusting mannerisms have kept her from making many close friends, but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have acquaintances. Although helping people has made her somewhat liked around her living area, people still do not like her shy and contemplative attitude. Her anger and temper haven’t been seen by many, but when they do see it, they’ll know. Her anger is like that of a hurricane. There is calm in the center, but no one sees the calm. They just see the thing that is pounding at the shores ferociously, destroying things in its path.
Her attitude, when hearing her speak, is often on the pessimistic side. She never had much to be thankful for, so she often found the bitter and cruel things in life. But that had only made her stronger emotionally. Not many things faze her, but when they do, you could never tell, because of her silence and her stony face. Some people mistaken her for cruel because of that. But she is not cruel, because each and every thing she witnesses slowly breaks her down into a scared little girl. But because she has barely an ounce of pride left in her life, she would never admit it.
Poppy got her name from her parent’s place of marriage under a Poplar Tree. Her parents quickly got pregnant and she was born on a sunny day, her mother died in child birth, leaving her to her grieving father. As a child, her father often resented her and ignored her when she needed him desperately. She often took care of herself when she was young, and so as she grew up, she learned that she couldn’t trust. But she still loved her father and worshipped him as a child. He didn’t spend their money on drink or gambling, it just sat in a jar on a shelf in their small home, a shelf she couldn’t reach, even when she was starving and they had no food.Codeword: oDair
When she finally grew into a young woman, her father realized that her life had passed him by, and he decided to be the best father he could be. There was always food on the table, even if it was barely any, he always worked hard, and he never forgot her birthday or any day equally as important. The two became what she had always wanted, father and daughter. By the time that the two had became friends; he had learned that she was quite good at axe throwing, despite the fact that he never taught her how to handle an axe. She had taught herself as a child as to distract herself from the hunger pains she got in her stomach.
He was very impressed with her throwing skills, so, the two spent their time entering competitions on axe throwing. She did not win them all, but she won some when she tried especially hard. Her most impressive win was a double throw at two different targets over fifty feet away. She almost hit center on both, while some couldn’t even make it fifty feet. The competitions made her and her father’s friendship solid and loving. The two realized that family… and winning (even if it’s just contests between the neighbors) is all that really matters to them. The two would admittedly do anything for one another
