Nina Jade {D7}

Nina Jade, the pretty face from district 7. She is an average height of 5'5'', but is a mere 125 pounds due to the insufficient nutrition from her district, giving her the lean figure most lower district children display. Her long black hair flows freely down on her light brown skin, hanging softly about her shoulders, the way she normally likes to wear it.
After working in the lumber area, Nina's hands bare the marks of her work. Her hands covered in scattered scars from numerous splinters and blisters, tends to make her self conscious. So she tries her best to keep them healthy...or hidden.
Because of Nina's work as a "Lumber Lugger", she has managed to define the muscles in her arms, making her look a little bit tougher, but this does not hide the persistent rumble in her stomach.

There's a difference between a good bitch and a bad one. And that difference is Nina. She doesn't mean to be one, and she doesn't want to be one either, but in a world like this one, you have to stand up for yourself, or you'll be walked all over. Teachers, friends, parents, or Peacekeeper. It doesn't matter to her. "Treat people with the same respect you want to be treated with". That's her motto and she's sticking to it.
Strong. That's what her father raised her to be. Physically and emotionally, she shall be strong. She's always been able to take a hit, but the passing of her mother was the true test of her strength. Tho she misses her mother dearly, she had to move on. For her family, and for herself. Life waits for no one, so why should she?
But aside from her tough exterior, Nina is always one to stand up for the underdog. She has been in her fair share of schoolyard fights, just to stand up to the occasional bully and to protect the meeker child. Some would call this noble, but to Nina, it's what's right..

Never will she be a victim. A life of hardship was all that welcomed Nina when she was born. An only child born to a family with a tight budget, Nina has always had to struggle along through life.
At the age of 12 she decided to try and work with her mother at a nearby factory that produced freshly made packages of papers for the capitol. Her job didn't consist of much, except for a lot of counting and machine maintenance, and this bored her. She was too much of a busy body to just sit and observe the "Amazing process of paper production" as her mother would put it. So for her 13th birthday, her father decided to take her into the woods and work with him for the day. From the moment Nina looked up at the towering trees of District 7, she knew she would only be truly happy among the trees, with her father. So on that day, she decided to work with her father as an assistant lumberjack.
The feeling of the soft soil beneath her feet, the breeze of fresh air that carried the scent of the pine needles to her noise, and the sounds of the Mocking jays harmonizing in the tree tops... These were the things that calmed her. Whenever she got into an argument with her parents, or a fight in school, this is where she would run. Just like so many other children from district 7, this was her home.
As the years passed, Nina developed different skills with an ax. Mostly because her father would teach her different cutting techniques on his lunch breaks. Then she would go into the woods after dinner with a couple of friends, and practice the different moves her father showed her, bringing down small saplings every now and then. Every day she would practice her strokes and her swings at the same place, at the same time, almost every day.
But once Nina tuned 15, she gained more responsibility. During the winter of her 15th year, her mother fell ill. Nina had to temporarily go to her mothers work at the factory in order for her family to maintain their budget. She did this until finally, after a moths worth of fighting, her mother passed away. After her mother's funeral was paid for, Nina's family was officially broke. Not a penny to their name. So Nina decided to pick up a new job. She became what most people in district 7 call a "Lumber Lugger". This entailed her hauling logs from point A to point B.
Now at 17 years old, Nina and her father struggle along trying to keep food on the table. She works hard at her job, even while she goes to school. She often comes home exhausted and sore, but even this does not stop her from her duties. She may miss the old times when her father wold teach her chopping techniques in the woods, or when they would come home from the work to a hot dinner on the table.. But she can't let those memories distract her. She can't let it keep her from keeping her family alive.
