Althea Hayes, District 7

Althea has been described as having shoulder-length, straight brown hair as brown as the bark on the trees. Her mane drops down to reach the middle of her back. Her long, perfectly tanned legs have always been of help to her when climbing trees. Her long, dark lashes hood and encase her light grey eyes, the color of the sky on a rainy morning. Her naturally thin, pink lips have been known to keep deadly secrets concealed behind them.

Althea is rather lanky and a bit small-chested. She's around 5'7" in height and weighs about 125 pounds, about the average for a District 7 teenage girl. She has powerful, strong arms, earned from a lifetime of chopping trees. Her tanned smooth face is free from acne, luckily. She knows she's not ugly, but she wouldn't define herself as 'beautiful' or 'pretty' either.

Althea has always been the kind of girl who's quiet at first, but when you get to know her, she's bubbly and wild. She's quite intelligent, one of the top students in her class. Her hobbies include writing poetry and short stories. She doesn't talk to many people,except for her family, due to the first impression she gives. She has very few close friends at school.

When she's with her family, sometimes she's a typical teen, rolling her eyes and talking back to her mother,but most of the time, she was her usual, polite, classy self. She always keeps her head held high, even when she's teased at school. She doesn't let that type of stuff bring her down. In that sense, she's very strong. Her goal in life is to inspire people, but she doubts they'll ever listen to her. She hopes that someday, she'll be much more than a lumberjack.

Her family isn't wealthy, but they definitely aren't poor either. They're about middle-class. Althea is a very loving, family-oriented person. In fact, she considers her family the most important things in her life. If one of her sisters was chosen for the Games, she'd volunteer without a second thought.

She's the eldest child in her family, amongst 3 other sisters. There's Delphi: age 15, Saffra: age 12, and Winnow: age 9. Their father was abusive for no reason at all. He was killed by Peacekeepers when Althea was only 8 tears old. With their father gone, her mother is slowly falling apart emotionally. She can be very unstable at times.

With no man in the house, and their mother disabled, she and Delphi partnered together to care for their younger sisters. Somehow, they found ways to keep their family on their feet and well-fed. Though at a young age, Althea has a career as a lumberjack in the vast forest of District 7. But, as mentioned before, she hopes to be something much more in the future. Even though she's two years younger than Althea, Delphi works at the paper factory.

She was always teased in school, about her 'insane' mother, her bruises and scars, even because she was smart. But she never was hurt by anything they said. Some of her close friends call her 'the unbroken one'. To her sisters, she's funny and loud, but outside of home, she's quite the opposite. She gets nervous easily around new people.
