Age: 14
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 7
Appearance:
Alyssa has the body of a dancer, toned and proportionate. She is of average height, 5 ft and 5 inches. She has dark brown hair that falls in soft curls to just below her shoulders. She tends to keep it pulled into a braid to avoid tangles. But on occasion she loves to let it hang down. She feels that her hair frames her face well, making the soft curves of her face noticeable.Personality:
However, her pale complexion has suffered through the years from working in the sun. Her once touchable soft skin, feels slightly rough and worn. Even though her dark brown eyes hold a youthful and curious glint. Which can be reflected in the slight coy smile that you usually find set on her lips.
When you first meet Alyssa, you will find that she's quiet, reserved and says little. But you can tell she's listening to every word you say by the attentive look on her face. Also on first meeting, she may seem almost rude by the fact that she avoids being the first person to say anything and usually spends time looking away or at the floor. This is not to be mistaken for ignorance, it's just the way she is.History:
The more you get to know Alyssa you'll discover little quirks about her. One of the traits you will notice is the carefree attitude she regards the world with. She's the type of person that is not worried by the Hunger Games and what they mean. Another trait you will notice is that she will question anything she doesn't understand. Although, she spends a fair amount of time read in between working, she still wants to know more. Also, she is easily amused by the things people say or do. Even if it's not meant to be funny she may still laugh.
However, if you really get to know her, you'll discover a much softer side to her. When it comes to family and friends, she is fiercely loyal. She also holds a great amount wisdom for her a girl of her age, often looking to help a person. In addition to her wisdom, she is empathic, this increases her ability to understand what another person is feeling and relate it to her own past.
But it's not all fun and games with Alyssa. She has a temper that emerges in the worse way. She can hold grudges against someone for a long time, sometimes years. She also believes in getting even. Or being one up on the person she feels offended, insulted or disrespected her in anyway. Either way, it's not a good idea to be on this side of Alyssa's temper.
Alyssa was the first-born in her family. Her mother took time off from work to ensure that she came to each milestone on time. This would later greatly benefit Alyssa in the greatest way of all.Codeword: odair
After two years, her mother went back to work and left Alyssa with a neighbor's eldest daughter; Melanie. Mel adored Alyssa and would often take her for walks around the district. She continued the teaching that Alyssa's mother started, and began to show Alyssa the wonders of wood. Instilling a love of nature and sense of creation in her young mind.
Sadly, when Alyssa was five, her beloved babysitter passed away due to illness. This setback Alyssa's progress a lot. She would often sit in her room and just stare out her window in the direction of the forest. At this point in her life is when Alyssa began to shut herself up from getting to know people. It took a long time for her to even trust her own parents. Often regarding them with suspicion and a coldness.
Eventually Alyssa snapped out of it, but not entirely. There was still wounds left on her heart. But she opened up enough to her parents to be able to start working at the age of 10. She would often help other children pick the twigs, branches, and leaves off the trees that were cut down. This helped her begin to talk to others. Even making a friend; Layla. Layla and Alyssa were inseparable at times. They could often be seen sneaking branches that were big enough to be whittled into a doll. Although it was frowned upon, many of the workers allowed the girls to get away with it, as they all knew what Alyssa had been through.
But, one day - at the age of 12 - Layla and Alyssa were playing in the forest, when Alyssa discovered Layla betrayed her. Layla had been getting into trouble at home for having taken the wood to make her dolls. No matter how much she protested it wasn't her fault, she would still get in trouble. This provoked Layla to tell one of the peacekeepers of Alyssa's "stealing". Alyssa received a fine and public punishment. It was embarrassing and her family was shamed. Alyssa than decided she was not going to allow it to ever happen to her or her family again. She thought Layla was her best friend. Disappointed and angry, she set out to get back Layla.
Alyssa had alienated Layla from their peers in a matter of weeks. Convincing them all that Layla could never be trusted and should be shunned. She also convinced Layla's mother that it was Layla's idea all along to take the wood to make dolls. In addition to this, Alyssa made it publicly known that she not associate with anyone who befriended Layla. Of course, this a lot for a 12 year old girl to do to another 12 year girl and Layla became apologetic and constantly begged for forgiveness. But Alyssa wouldn't listen and would leave anything she came near.
Over the next few years, Alyssa focused on her studies - learning math, reading, wood craving and assembly of basic structures - and work. As she now began to work with others hacking off the branches off the trees with an ax or saw.
Comments/Other:
Alyssa's mother worked in the factory that produced figurines and frames. Whereas her father worked in the forest cutting down trees, and in the factory turning the tress into lumber.
