The Life of Leviosa

Like any of the other girls like me, I have spent my entire life in the confines of District 7, and never once have my feet touched the outside world. It is a... modest existence, I suppose, sort of like my lifestyle. Never rich, never poor, but not quite enough for my family and I. We perpetually live in the life of gray, the in between, limbo. And I suppose that must have rubbed off on me, because I find myself forever in between, never angry nor happy, and without any aspiration nor living for the moment. I am the gray splotch in between, the forgotten, but I am still here, fighting to find my place in either the light or the darkness.

I have never made any effort to really stick out as I grew up. With dirty blonde hair, tanned skin, and brown eyes, I am no different than the typical citizen here in the lumber district. Perhaps I am a bit on the tall side, but in no way could you really pick me out of the crowd. But I am me.

Since I was twelve, I have had experience working in the woods. Like most other kids in the district, I started young, though I'd never really picked up an axe until I was 14. My first jobs had been marking the trees, something that was light on my young body, but as soon as I was a little older, they put me to the real work. I bulked up, especially in my arms and shoulder, and soon the axes and saws were light to my muscular body.

Though I could never really feel happy with what I was doing. I was going through the daily grind, nothing really enjoyable or challenging. In my own mind, there was no true purpose to what I was doing. All my labor accomplished was help in the sustenance of the Capitol's rule over all of us, and I despised it. I never say anything, though. There is a special place for those who stick out, and it is safer to be in the gray. But it doesn't make me happy.

I'm a really simple girl, loving the little things in life. Ever since I was real young I have always loved things like birds and butterflies, and the odd little yellow sidewalk flower, growing in between the cracks. My parents were the same, and they never really left much of an impression on me. They were also among the gray. My dad was a quiet man, hardly speaking unless spoken to, as was my mother, though occasionally she had the odd little tidbits of old wisdom.

Come to think of it, growing up I reflected them. I was so quiet and effortless, allowing the other children to brush me aside, and leave me be. Never had I made any enemies... or friends. Even at recess, I'd reject the company of children my age to either walk around, or hole up in some quiet corner. At some points, a few of the more outgoing ones would confront me to play, but so adamantly I would refuse.

Into my years as a teenager, I never really caught the attention of boys, and still really don't. I don't think that it's because I'm ugly, I'd like to believe I am fairly attractive, but I suppose I give off that vibe of not wanting to be confronted. Though it doesn't really make it hurt any less.

All of my years spent in solitude have taken a bit of a toll on me. Rejecting the world, in the end, has made me feel to be the rejected one. They gave me what I wanted, to be ignored, and now I understand how wrong I've been, but people don't change. I won't change. People are simply an unsolvable puzzle, leaving me behind when I can't unlock it. Maybe someday.
