"I like to climb trees in mini-skirts because life is too short not to climb trees in mini-skirts." --Little Sayings of Wisdom by Sabrina F. Harrison
Sabrina Harrison was not in a tree, nor was she wearing a mini-skirt while she contemplated waking up Nilly. It was nearly eight in the morning and her sister was not awake yet. Yes, yes it was a weekend day, Sunday to be exact, but sadly there was work to be done. Sabs needed her scholar-smart sister to wake up and milk the cows or whatever else needed to be done. Sabrina prided herself on taking care of her sometimes obnoxiously intellectual, ginger, little sister yet she couldn't do everything all of the time.
What is that saying? You can do everything some of the time but you cant do everything all of the time? Or am I just confusing myself again... she thought. Sabs had stopped going to school a few years ago. She was eighteen. Do the math. Her schooling wasn't complete, she had too much to do, no point in worrying about algebra II too.
She sighed and finally decided to wake up Nilly. The girl would get hissy and snarky if she thought Sabrina was doing too much work. Sabrina hurled herself onto Nilly's bed, trying to surprise the girl. Nilly rarely smiled, and Sabs was in a bad mood. She wanted to shock the sixteen year old smarty-pants and watch her laugh and smile and silently reassure Sabrina that everything was going to be okay.
Because everything wasn't okay. Sabrina Harrison had had cancer! She could have died and her sister didn't even know. How about that for keeping secrets? This was the first time Sabrina had deliberately misled her younger sister, and it was killing her. She remembered her days spent with the good doctor, as her body healed. Tears had never stopped flowing, her cheeks had been stained for days with that salty stuff. It had been unbearable then, and it was ten times worse now. All these things, Sabrina thought of as she moved through time and space, about to fall on her sister.
"Wake up!" she said to the sleeping girl as soon as she made contact with the bed. Problems had to be ignored right now, or Nilly would figure out that something was up.
