Really? A blind date? Shayden was of person was generally frowned upon this sort of thing. She was known as the mature one of her group of friends. She was mature, responsible, and she had taken care of her younger brother and sister from a young age. She had only dated a couple guys and liked to be in serious relationships where she felt strong feelings for the person she was with. She knew absolutely nothing about this person she was about to meet. What did that say about her? That she was a hypocrite? A bad example? A shame to her family.
She wondered what Aaliyah would think. Shayden had discouraged her from employing this sort of behavior. Now she was all set up for her own date, blissfully (or not so blissfully) unaware of who she was going on a date with.
What if her friends were wrong and the person she would be meeting was some creepy stalker kid? Or really mean? Or an absolute slob? Growing up in her prestigious family, Shayden had impeccable manners. She could only stand a mess when it involved dirt, and that only because she had grown accustomed to it from her days spent gardening. Dirty hands and sauces getting on shirts got on her nerves. She didn't want to deal with that on top of the stress she felt from being pushed into this.
She was dressed nicely, with wash-out skinny jeans and a cute white top with navy embroidery, but it was nothing too fancy. Her hair was left completely down, and she wore low heels, to make her seem a just a tad taller. She was relatively short, standing at only 5'4. At least she was still in shape and fit.
Shayden walked out the door, saying goodbye to Aaliyah, reminding her of everything that had to be done. Chances were that nothing would be taken care of. But, of course, she wouldn't be here to yell later. Her friends pushed out the door before she could finish.
They all chattered happily, making sure she looked perfect. Honestly, Shayden wondered what they were so excited about. Her possible agony? This could be one of the worst nights of her life. She didn't want to be going on a blind date, so why was she here? She was wasting her time, in her opinion. Who wanted to awkwardly sit with a complete stranger as you ate dinner together?
Of course, maybe she needed to be more optimistic about this. She had been viewing this like she was waiting for an awful experience. Maybe if she thought more positively she would enjoy herself more. It was worth a shot. After all, she should try to have a good time. Blind or not, this was a date. What if the boy honestly just wanted to have a fun time? What was so bad about that?
They arrived at their destination. It was a nice restaurant, but nothing too great. Casual and cool. Shayden's friends commanded her to close her eyes as they escorted her to a table set for two. Her date was already there, and Shayden examined him.
It was hard to see how tall he was, seeing as they were both sitting down. Anywhere from 5'7 to 5'9 seemed about right. His hair was brown with some black highlights, and very messy. His eyes, however, were a beautiful shade of sea green with gold and silver flecks. They were clearly his best feature. Shayden was captivated by them.
He seemed close to anorexic, in a man version. His body was gaunt, without an inch of fat on it. It was every women's dream to be like that. Lucky men.
Shayden smiled graciously at him. "Hey," she greeted. "I'm Shayden. Shayden Agatu. How are you?"
