Just to clarify this takes place around a week BEFORE the events of "on the hunt".
I'm tired. I just had a long hunt and I can barely keep my eyes open. I push my way through bush after bush, each one getting thicker and more difficult to get through. With each step I become more and more certain that I'm going the wrong way. Finally, I see a break in the trees, and I triumphantly go through. It's not the town, however. It's just a clearing. But what makes me gasp is the pack of wolves standing there. They keep their eyes on me, watching my every movement and snarling. They look hungry, and I have my hunting bag. I'm also pretty certain I'm on their territory. I empty my hunting bag where they can get the food, but they don't even glance at it. They keep their eyes on me and continue snarling. Oh no, oh no, I'm going to die, I think to myself, backing up. Suddenly they jump at me, and I turn and sprint away. My exhaustion is replaced by fear and adrenaline. I can hear them getting closer, slowly but surely. My wolf carving pendant bounces against my chest as I run, and I think of when I got it, when I killed a wolf without help. That was one wolf, and it was plenty challenging, but this is a whole pack of them. I don't know if I can make it. Then I hear footsteps and rustling in the bushes just up ahead. They must have circled around to trap me. I close my eyes and wait to die.
Those footsteps are of course yours, Dannoirl. Sorry it took so long, my mom was looking at something.
