Music played in the back round and I hummed and sang softly to it.
We were on our train headed for District 1. When ever we head there every one says I'm going home. I suppose I am but I don't feel like it. The circus is my home wherever they are I feel at home.
I hear a knock on my door and jump up from my bed. I had been laying there mentally rehearsing my acrobatics for the next show. It was full of flips and twirls and was one of my favorites. I didn't really need to rehearse but it calmed me.
I was sooo excited to perform later. After I was suppose to get a chance to roam the district or before the show if we had enough time.
I rarely ever got to do this so it was a really big day.
I walked over to the door and opened it to Farny. She was the make-up specialist for the Circus.
She came from the Capitol so her skin is died and she has tattoos everywhere. She stood a few inches taller than me and had bright green skin today that set of her Aqua colored hair. She was the one who always died my hair for the shows. Which was why she was here.
"Oh Hi!!!" I squealed excitedly. "Far did you hear their going to let me roam around for a while before the show." She patted my head and smiled.
She had never told me how old she was and she only looked about 25 but I presumed she was older.
"You know Garb will be going with you right?" she said kindly. Garb usually went with me. He was almost 6'7 and was completely made of muscle. When ever I was allowed to leave he came with me to keep me safe.
I giggled and pulled Farny inside. "Of course he's coming he always does." I followed her to the bathroom where she dumped out the hair dying colors. They were all different shades and we only ever did highlights. They were also temporary so she could change them depending on the outfit I was suppose to wear. Seeing as most of what she dumped out was light blue I thought it would be.... LIGHT BLUE.
Far looked at me and said, the normal stuff, "Close your eyes or the color will stain them."
"I wouldn't mind having different colored eyes." I replied. This was our routine for as long as I could remember.
"Now, now," she replied motherly. "I'm sure your future man loves your eyes already."
Suddenly I frowned. This was so uncharacteristic for me I think Far actually flinched.
"Far," I said thoughtfully. "How will I ever meet anyone if I'm always with you guys. I'm not even allowed to talk to people outside of the circus."
Fear flickered on her face but she simply closed my eyes with her hand and said teasingly, "You'll have plenty of time later on."
The train pulled into the station just as I was half way done with the newest dance I had made up.
I stopped and took the pins out of my hair. I started packing my bags and when I heard the knock on the door I was already to go. Outside the train was Garb.
I smiled happily while I was putting up my dirty-blond (now with highlights of blue) hair into a pony-tail.
"Hello! Does this mean I get to see the District?" I replied happily, while gracefully spinning in a circle. He grunted which meant yes.
"Yay!!!" I ran up to Garb and hugged him. "Thank you! Thank You! Thank you!"
I was so happy!!! This was the first time this year that I had been allowed to see the District we were performing for. I was only allowed to do this four or five times a year and they were all real big treats for me. I always sampled the local food and saw the neatest stuff.
I was so happy I flipped forward and landed in a hand stand. I always loved walking on my hands!!! It gives me a different view on the world.
Garb grunted again which I could tell was suppose to be a kind of chuckle. I smiled upside down while my hair was falling on the ground.
I realized I shouldn't be doing that to my hair or e would have to wash it sooner and then Far would have to re-do the highlights. I did a flip to get up and merrily said to Garb, "Lead the way!!"
Garb let me walk in front actually. I looked at all the stalls and bought a few things with my spare money. By the time we were halfway through the main street I had accumulated dozens of nick-knacks and different types of food. I had been singing one of my dance songs and twirling to the remembered music when I heard a voice to my right.
