Tally stood at the edge of the forest, close to the fence but not so
close that somebody could see her. The six year old was breathing
hard, not being able to get enough air. Blue was in the final fight.
She could die, either by Arbor's hand or what's-his-name's hand.
If Blue died, Tally wouldn't know what to do. Her older sister, gone.
The woman who had taken care of her, despite loosing their mother
so Tally and Coy could live. Tally knew there was a time when Blue
hated them because of that, but then Blue told her how she
realized that they where the last gift their mother gave her.
So, here was Tally, complementing running away. The fresh wind
running over her skin, the sound of the birds chirping, the rustling of
the underbrush of animals of prey playing and gathering food. It
was so peaceful, so calming. If she ran away, it would be like this,
everyday. No worries about being in the Hunger Games, no worries
about how they where going to survive without Blue hunting their
food. And there was a band of Runaways in the forest somewhere.
She could find them and they might help her.
But there was Shay, who was more of a sister while Blue was more
of a mother. And her father, and her brother. Could she really worry
them like that? She was only six. How would she find the band of
runaways in time before she died of starvation? would they even
accept her? Would they see her as a use, or would they just send
her out? And she would never know what happened to Blue. Coy
and her father where watching the Games right now and they
promised to tell her what happened to Blue. If she left now, and
Blue came back, would she ever know?
Tally groaned. There was to many pros and to many cons. Her heart
was telling her to leave, to run away from the sorrow the death of
her sister might bring, but her gut was telling her to stay, to find out
and deal with the sorrow if it comes, she was only six, she shouldn't
throw her life away.
She hated those shoulder demon/angel things.
