Dru Charlesburgs feet barely made a noise as she walked down the dserted road. Unbeknownst to her, she had not always been Drusilla Bellatrix Charlesburg. The thought had never crossed her frigid, uncaring mind and if it did, she wasn't too sure her equally frosty and unfeeling heart would do as much as give the feeling a second metaphorical glance.
Her icy blue eyes could only be described as bored as the child made her way down the road. It was one of the only unpaved ones in all of District One, and very far away from her own expensive, beautifulhomehouse. It was the only place she felt remotely comfortable at, as it was the first place Dru had watched somebody get seriously hurt at, and not felt anything. It was strange, but a young Dru, maybe two years ago had watched a fight between rival gangs from a sturdy old tree. She had been fascinated by the blood pouring out of one of the wounded gang-members, but not in a creepy, sick way. She had been so interested, because the person had just kept on fighting even as the ground around them soaked a dark, wine-red.
That was the first day Dru could remember feeling sorry for somebody, and finding the strength to block the emotion. It was the first day she had stomped her foot and told her humanity to get lost. Nobody would ever hurt her, nobody would ever make her so stupid as to keep on fighting even as their life drip-dropped away, seeping into the soil. Sometimes staring at that tree, then at the spot she had witnessed the near-death of a human brought a grim smile to her face. It was because she regarded it as the first day Dru could really look herself i the mirror and see a strong young woman looking back. Sometimes that smile just didn't come.
Sometimes she would just look down at the spot, her cool eyes regarding it with as much compassion they had when confronting a rather rude, rich little brat-girl much like herself except they had the rude, little, and brat parts and Dru didn't. It was a weird place, and even she didn't understand exactly what emotions coursed through her veins as she walked toward the spot, but it was a sacred place to Dru Charlesburg.
School had just let out, and Dru had not wanted to go to her huge house. The grand, splendid room that was up the pristine stair-case and down five paces did not interest her. There was nothing at her supposed home that made Dru want to come to it. Not her supposed parents, not her little pet dog, her room and all its grandeur, or the promise of a delicious dinner.
Thats why she stood, staring at the grass beneath her feet until finally the sun set and twilight set in. Her blue eyes glimmered in the odd lighting. Time flew when Dru was left to entertain herself on days like this one. Thats when she heard the sound. Dru couldn't identify if it had been somebody exhaling, stepping on a twig, or shuffling their feet, but she was suddenly tugged out of herself and the bored, confidant head turned i the direction Dru thought she had heard a sound come from...
