The Games were as horrible as always, that much was true. It was torture for her to watch, even her, who reveled in ways to make others feel small. But the Hunger Games.... They made her feel small. As if the Capitol could do whatever it wanted, kill anyone at anytime, and she couldn't do anything. That's because that was true.
She tore herself away from the crowd in the center of the square, muttering in coherent things beneath her breath and pushing people out of her way. She even whacked a person or two wth her cane. They didn't care. She's always been the problem child. Elysian Quick needed something to occupy her mind. Fast.
The first thing that came to mind was the forest. She twirled her cane in her hand, making it look like the propellors of things called 'airplanes' she'd once read about in school. How she loathed school. It was just a bunch of lies fed to the children of the districts to keep them off the Capitol's back. It wasn't like they aimed to hep them. Afterall, wasn't it the Capitol that was sending children to their deaths every year, simply for entertainment?
She pushed the thoughts from her mind as her perked her ears to listen for the usually non-exsistant hum of the electric fence, which meant it was live. When. as she expected, it was stone quiet, she shoved her stick under, then crawled through the hole in it. She dusted herself off, picking up her cane and beginning to twirl it, again.
She'd found the abandoned bow years before, fixed up the string a bit, building some arrows, and had been using it, since. It was the only thing that kept her alive. She retrieved it from the hole in a tree she kept it in, shoving her cane in its place. She removed her cape, balling it up and shoving it in with her cane. Now, she was in hunt mode. Nothing could distract her, or else she'd go hungry, again. She shuddered, hating the memory of the empty feeling in her stomach.
Elysian took a deep breath, silencing her mind, and searched the ground for any game. The forest was silent, giving it this eery quality she hated. She stayed still for a few more minutes, before a squirrel finally revealed itself. She followed its head with her bow, aiming as accurately as possible. WHIZ! She released the arrow, and it met it's mark, just as she planned.
The squirrel let out a quick squeak, and died. Elysian slid down her tree to the ground, retrieving her prey and pulling the arrow out of its eye. A sound behind her sent her sprinting back up her tree and onto a branch. She flattened herself as much as possible, wrapping her arms and legs around the rough bark, squirrel grasped tightly in one hand. She peered at the ground, waiting for whatever made the sound to show itself.
