Aurora Webster -District 2 [finished]

Aurora was born and lives in District 2 and has never gone a day without food. She has always been on the petite size, taking after her mother, Sapphire Webster, and presently only reaches a height of 5 feet 2 inches with a slim, but healthy body.

Her pale blue eyes are almost always rimmed with a generous amount of eyeliner that her mother absolutely despises. With pale blonde hair reaching a little over an inch past her shoulders, Aurora refuses to follow her mother’s advice of how to "properly" fix hair. She would rather leave it in its usual straight appearance or carelessly yanked up in a ponytail.

Living in District 2 has given Aurora the luxury of never working outside of her training and her baby soft, pale skin easily reflects this. Of course, one look at her stubby, chewed on finger nails quickly ruins the china doll appearance her parents strive to achieve on their daughter. The only time true color comes into Aurora is in the winter when cooler temperatures she is exposed to from her walk from one building to another brings a bright red tint to her cheeks and the lack of sun brings out the slight, brunette streak in her hair. When such red tints stain Aurora’s cheeks, her mother frets that it will bring out how Aurora’s nose is slightly too long and it will “ruin perfect beauty of my little doll”.

Finally, many would think this small girl could have no flaws, but of course this is her parents goal. Beneath this seemingly perfect exterior, a small birthmark lies under makeup on Aurora's right shoulder and small crescent lines dot her hands from her only way to relieve built up anger: clenching her fists. Although this may at times draw blood to stain her hands, Aurora normally only has these small marks to show this bad habit. When Aurora lets her anger get the best of her, which is normally all the time, she clenches her fists tightly and over the years, this has created permanent crescent shaped scars on her palm. Every day once her eyeliner has been applied, Aurora sets about covering her birthmark, as her mother will throw a fit otherwise. Since she can remember, Aurora has been reminded that such a mark is a defect that must be covered.

Aurora is the complete definition of "breaking the mold." With her snappy attitude, Aurora is much different from other girls of her district. Aurora prefers solitude and would much rather lay in the window seal of her bedroom listening to the latest songs then chattering with friends or shopping with friends.

Although Aurora attends school, she rarely speaks with any her own age other than her cousin, Zander. With no siblings, Aurora is the center of attention with her parents, but she hates this. By occasionally dying the tip of her hair blue and starting each day by applying eyeliner, Aurora works to upset her mother and stand out in her own way.

The last thing anyone wants to do is get Aurora upset. Her fiery temper is well hidden under that "china doll" appearance but Aurora will put anyone in his or her place. Of course a petite girl like her does not have bulging muscles to beat others up with or intimidating height. Aurora, however, is fast and has a surprisingly forceful kick, as running is her favorite part of training. She will kick any victim bringing them to her level so she can give them a piece of her mind.

Aurora's fiery attitude and preference of solitude are not the main difference setting her apart from others her age. Aurora has never had an interest in training for the Hunger Games. Watching the annual event is a bore to her and she finds herself rooting for the underdogs silently despite knowing they could never possibly win. The only true reason she even shows up for training is to please her father.

While one minute with her mother is pure torture, Aurora does not mind sitting silently with her father as he works on papers or watches a program. The thought of disappointing her father brings waves of guilt to Aurora's mind and she finds herself dragging her feet to ever training session.

Aurora is also extremely loyal to those she cares about. Whether it is being there for them when they need her or sticking up for them and giving anyone who bothers them a piece of her mind, Aurora is one of the most loyal people you will meet. Even though she does not socialize the most, does not have the most friends and does not even make friends that easily, she is loyal and trustworthy to the end.

Finally, Aurora is very observant. Although she has never been the top of her class in math or science, she misspells more words than she spells correctly, and cannot name a date in Panem's history to save her live, she can pick up on those around her. Aurora knows more about people than they may know about themselves. This has become her second weapon against those who wish to taunt her for being a "loner" or "shrimp". Aurora knows the darkest secrets of most in her district and wouldn't hesitate in making these details public knowledge.

Aurora has grown up in a small family. Being an only child, she has been the center of her mother's focus and must constantly hide to avoid "mother-daughter bonding" time. Aurora has two cousins, one her age and another who recently turned two years old. Zander, Aurora's cousin who is her age, knows her better than anyone and is more like a best friend. They have grown up together and watch out for one another.

Although Aurora has not experienced the death of a close relative, starvation, or poor living conditions, her life isn't perfect. Sapphire, her mother, and Caleb, her father, constantly argue. Many times it is over what to do about their daughter. Her mother believes that Aurora needs to be different while her father could care less as long as she trains.

Throughout her childhood, Aurora refused to play with dolls. Rather, she insisted on learning an instrument. Few ever attempt to learn instruments, as there are so many other things to do that require less work. Aurora, however, refused to train unless she was given an instructor for an instrument. Her parents finally managed to find a man who was able to read the "scribble" of music notes, as they called it, and taught Aurora how to play both the piano and guitar.

When Aurora is not listening to music, she is normally either playing one of the two instruments, or writing her own music. Her family, however, has kept this hobby, secret. Such a strange hobby would bring unneeded attention and questions, which Aurora's mother refuses to allow.

Aurora has trained for the Hunger Games for her father's sake. Even though such training sessions are not what she looks forward to, Aurora has picked up on a few skills. Aurora is a fairly good runner and is able to react quickly due to her observant nature. If presented with the choices of flee or fight, Aurora would flee. However, Aurora has learned how to use a knife to defend herself. Much to her father's disappointment, Aurora has not volunteered for a Hunger Games yet, but he has been pushing her more and more each year.
