Althea Essex -- D6 (Done)

Althea's being is composed in a five feet and four inches of a body that weighs one hundred and ten pounds. Really, she looks just like any other girl in six, nothing special really. She doesn't think she's the most beautiful, no, but she thinks she's not too bad either. She was quite scrawny s a child, she had gained more desirable weight since her mother and father started being strict with her health, them having medical background and everything. Although having gained wight, she's still on the thin side. Her bones and everything were still prominent, which was pretty normal in six, hardly anyone was ever overweight, everyone was so health conscious in her district, being the scientific district and all that.

Her eyes were of her mother's, cat-like, sharp, and deep. The color was a less magnified version than that of her mother's, but nonetheless stunning. It is the light, shimmering, color of sapphire. The term poker face was nonexistent once you look into her eyes, most of her expressions were expressed through her eyes, and you can instantly identify her mood just by a peek at it. The saying that the eyes are a window to the soul completely applies to her. Althea is highly dependent on her vision, she thinks it is the most important out of all the other senses. She, however, has a small case of nearsightedness, but only to a small degree, although she couldn't read a sign from ten yards away.

The rest of Althea's face came from her father's soft and kind features. She has a thin triangular face ending in a soft point on her chin, her nose also ended in a soft rounded point. Her eyebrows were thick and didn't really match any of the other parts of her face. All in all her face is that of a young, innocent looking child that you would see walking around with a ribbon and a teddy bear. Her other features just add to the vividness of her emotions. If you see her cry it is as if you too were about to cry, and if she were furious, it is as if you can feel the heat radiate from her. Basically, she is hopeless in hiding her emotions, and most of the time this is to her disadvantage. Most think she's too young for her age.

Thin strands of honey brown hair frames her face. She usually keeps it in an up do and hardly ever does anything fancy with it. Usually her hair is not very cooperative. She finds it annoying how it's always on her way, hence her always tying it tight to a ponytail or a bun. Her ignorance of the healthcare of her hair leaves it in a sort of bristly and matted state. And frankly, she doesn't really care. Hairs are the least of her concern, but she never really found the courage to just chop it all off and leave her head bare and naked to the whole country of Panem. Surely that wasn't an issue in the Capitol, but she knew her parents would strongly disagree of shaving her head, so she just leaves her relationship with it the it is, mutual.

Althea's physique wasn't anything special, she is on the underweight size, but it isn't too bad. There's still some meat hanging on to her bones, and what meat she has in her were strong and healthy. Her mother and father made sure of this. She had healthy balanced food at all times, not too much not to little, her family weren't the wealthiest in the district, but they can survive just fine. She had firm limbs and parts. She had long legs, long arms, and somewhat long fingers to match. She isn't the most fit, specially in a healthy district, but she can still run and do vigorous activities for long periods of time. When it comes to clothing, she's very simple and doesn't favor fancy Capitol-like outfits, but anything you give her she'll wear, as long as its not ridiculous.

Althea's most overpowering trait is her shyness or apprehensiveness. This doesn't necessarily mean that she wants to hide in the dark and not be noticed, heck she wants to be noticed, but not to be the star. She rather be part of the winning team, than to be the leader of that winning team. She tends to crave attention, although she always had it with her parents, being that there was only her and her older brother, and we all know the baby girl gets the most attention. Yet she wasn't very social, which probably contributes to the fact that she sought attention. She was one of those random people in school that you don't really want to notice or entertain. This left her feeling like she was invisible and that nobody liked her. Although her brother's wonderful pep-talks would always do the trick if she feels down. He was her friend, probably even her only friend, instantly making him the best friend she ever had.

You would think Althea was the type of person that was too depressed to function. In fact, she was really out going and energetic once she gets warmer with you. Then again no one really has warmed up to her very much, so she just puts all her energy in her studies and work. She is a perfectionist when it comes to her studies. She usually, however, has that lazy mood with her, and rarely has that really productive mood. But when she's on that productive mood, she gets things done. She loves the art of healing, and aims to be one of the greatest doctors in whole of Panem. She had set the goal since she was six, she was supported by her family through and through. She looked at the art as her ticket to eternal glory. Yes, she aims for eternal glory.

He is usually very loving despite her sometimes mean attitude. She's very protective and caring of her loved ones and she respects them fully, sometimes it might even irritate them. On the downside she holds the grudge and doesn't forgive and forget as easily as others, resulting her having trust issues, which again adds to the fact that she doesn't have a social life. School projects and such are as close to social activities she gets with other students. So all in all Althea is a socially inept girl who is very wise and caring, but also has flaws, such as holding grudges and all that, she's somewhat an attention seeker, but not in a bad way, she just wants them, she doesn't really do anything to get them. She can be lazy at times, and hardworking at others. Overall Althea is quite an interesting individual.

From today, roughly about seventeen years ago, on a cool autumn night, a baby girl was given birth to by Doctor Kathleen Essex and a chemist in the name of Asclepius Essex. Kathleen was somewhat a renowned doctor due to her odd mix of old school and modern day practices, which was handed down to her by her ancestors. Asclepius, on the other hand, relies greatly on modern day advances to concoct different kinds of medicines, he doesn't really invent a whole new kind of medicine, but just helps improvements of already invented medicines. Before their baby girl they already had a boy, he's three years older than the girl. Now the boy, Galen Essex, works as an intern for his mother's friend.

Doctors Kathleen and Asclepius decided to assign her the name Althea, pronounced Al-Thee-Ya, as you would if the e was an i. Asclepius contributed the name, he had studied about a healing herb that Kathleen tweaked and came up with Althea, yes with an e. They liked the name, so they stuck with it. Although at young ages, the two, Althea and her brother, had troubles with the name Althea. It took them quite a while, but eventually they pronounced it right and spelled it correctly as well. At first, however, Althea wasn't very fond of her name, she thought it was "tacky" and not practical. But as she started school she experienced kids around her being made fun off by their names, but they couldn't seem to think of a way to alter Althea's name to tease her with, so she started warming up to her name, and eventually loved it.

Again, Althea wasn't a very social person and she was shy and silent, so she didn't really have such great friends even at a young age, she was accompanied by herself alone. And she didn't mind this, at least until the other did. Sooner or later the news of her being anti-social reached her parents, and they thought something was unhealthy about their baby girl. Althea was naturally thin, she didn't have much appetite and she definitely liked moving around, so she burnt more calories than she took in, and she wasn't really aware of this until they studied about it in school. Her parents had a different view of things, they thought Althea being socially-inept caused her to not eat and have eating disorders, so up to this day Althea is still under strict health watch under her parents, and sometimes even Galen, her brother.

Having nothing to focus on but school, Althea's academics were pretty healthy, and her parents are proud, excited, and all that good stuff. She grew up to be wise and clever, yet somehow stern, she can't really take a joke, unless your really close to her, like her brother. That's pretty much it for who's aboard the closeness train, Galen, Kathleen, and Asclepius, her family. That's it, no best friends, not even her cousins, which she looks down upon. She thinks their too weird or too mean to be around with, so most of her social time involves her brother, which doesn't bother them at all, and of course school activities. District Six highly focuses on math and science on their studies, mostly science. They learn what other districts would learn in high school in 5th grade. They were thought the basics mathematical and scientific concepts throughout middle school, and they start to explore the different branches in high school, she chose the field of healing, like her mother.

Althea was instructed by many brilliant professors, but the professors that get to her the most was her mother and her brother, which were both also in the field of healing. Asclepius taught her how to concoct basic medicines and their ingredients, but she was kind of slow on that field and it took her a long time to master all the concepts. Like her grandmother, her mother also thought her the odd mix of old school and modern style practices. However she didn't stick to it all the way through. It was more like her foundation where she made her own different ways of doing things along the way, and sometimes even invent a technique that would surprise her mother. She was still required, at least by her parents, to study about other field of district six, and fields of other districts as well, but the resources for studying were so limited. School also enforced the history of Panem, which was irrelevant to Althea, what's done is done, she says, but then again she never really cared about Panem, specially when it comes to the Capitol.

Right now Althea is on her last two years of school, she's a junior on a college where her whole family studied as well. Sometimes she would help on local clinics from around the district and act as an assistant to the doctors. She was really fond about it, turns out she communicates well with elder people than her own peers. She learns new concepts and ideas, and she gets to have a fun time, and that was heaven on earth for Althea.
