Dane Naylor, District 1

Dane stands at roughly about 6’2 and hates when people comment on his height. He has a decent build as a result from years of training. He has sparkling emerald green eyes that always seem to be reflecting some form of positive energy, but only he knows it is just a facade. He has soft blonde hair that always looks like he just rolled out of bed, but this look suits him. He is the kind of boy that attracts second glances by most he walks by. He has high set cheek bones that just draw more attention to his eyes. His lips are slightly lopsided, but when he smiles this gives the added affect of a boyish charm. He has the kind of face that people will normally give him a second glance and he uses this to his advantage.

He has a large scar the runs the length of his back that he is extremely conscious of. The scar stands out and is extremely pale in comparison to the rest of his lightly tanned body. He never takes off his shirt not wanting people to see this flaw. He generally wears either worn out jeans and a button down shirt, or his training gear. He usually keeps his head held high with an air of confidence surrounding him. This is all a facade to mask the weak boy hidden beneath his surface.

Dane has two split personalities that are complete opposites. One he wears for the entire world to see; while the other he keeps buried and locked away hidden from prying eyes. To the world he is a boy who is confident to the point where he seems arrogant. He walks around like everyone is beneath him and not a single thing in the world could touch him. Dane likes to think he is unbreakable, but only he knows how big of a lie this is.

He knows even the strong have to crumble, but he refuses to show weakness in front of anyone. He is self reliant and doesn’t believe he needs anyone’s help to get things done. If he wants something he will get it himself. He hates relying on anyone including himself in some cases as he sees this as just setting himself up to get pushed back down. He is the kind of guy that when he falls he falls hard. Dane hates criticism as he is hard enough on himself as it is and doesn't need to hear all the mistakes he has made from others.

Dane is one of the most competitive guys out there. He hates losing and doesn’t take it lightly. Since he rarely loses any battles except the ones against himself he does not know how to gracefully lose. Instead he will generally get mad and work out his frustration in his training. He uses his training as an outlet to work out the multitude of emotions that always seem to be crushing down on him.

The other side to Dane is the one nobody knows about. After he fell into alcoholism he does everything he can to keep this a secret. Behind the face of a strong boy is nothing but a scarred boy who is afraid of himself. He fears one day he will drink himself into the dark and never wake up again. He wants to quit drinking yet at the same time he doesn't.

His addiction is too much for him to deal with most of the time, so he just locks this part of himself away. To keep this a secret he trains to keep himself as healthy as possible. He knows the damage the drinking does to his body and mind yet most of the time he doesn’t care. He craves the feeling of numbness brought on by drinking too much. All he wants to do is forget the world around him and dive into a bliss only nothingness can bring.

When he drinks he is easily aggravated and is set on edge. He says things he would never speak out loud when sober. He will act without thinking and generally hurts those around him; ether with his fists or his words. He is conflicted in the sense that he knows none of this will solve anyone of his problems, but it is also not easy to crush this addiction once he became hooked. Dane is torn down and as strong as me may appear he is mentally weak. He just won’t admit it to anyone. He won’t reach out for help no matter how close he is to falling off the edge.

Dane was born into a fairly normal family with only one older brother. His brother Hunter always overshadowed Dane and is perfect in the eyes of his parents. This is part of the reason he will act out in an attempt to get attention. He hates his brother for making him feel worthless and in his eyes this hate will never melt away. However Hunter could care less about what Dane thought about as long as he keeps his little brother in place he doesn’t have a single care in the world.

Dane’s father started training him alongside his brother at a very young age. Dane quickly found out he had a natural born talent with a sword. During one training session when Dane was eleven Hunter went into a fit of jealousy as he could never use a sword as well as his younger brother. When their father left to allow his sons to train on their own Hunter slashed out at Dane’s back with a knife. This being the reason as to why Dane sports the large scar on his back. Hunter being the manipulative boy that he is was able to convince his parents that Dane had attacked him and his actions were purely out of self defense.

After this incident Dane’s parents could no longer deal with the burden their son had become. They sent him to live with his grandfather who was rarely around. At the age of eleven this is when the drinking started. Dane couldn’t take the feeling of abandonment and knowing that he was nothing, but a screw up so he sought a way to drown out these feelings. At first the drinking was a casual thing, but as he grew up it progressively became worse. The drinking has now become a normal part of his life, but he is still in denial about his addiction.
