Age: 16
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 3
Appearance:
Rydiyall is somewhat short, and slightly under-weight. Her face shows gentle curves around thin cheekbones, with the right side sitting lower than the left, due to the bone being smashed by an engine block. Her eyes shine a yellowish brown and her skin is stained almost black up to her elbows. Her right ear is mangled and shrivelled almost completely off from an accident with a driveshaft, which also tore off her father's right pinky. She also has a long, thin row of 3 scars running from her right collar-bone to her left hip where the engine block that got her cheek dragged across her torso, pulling the fan blades through her skin.Personality:
For clothing, she wears her father's hand-me-downs, which are too big for her normally, so she usually ties them up, an act which shows off her oil-stained belly as well. The shirt-tails usually are run through her belt-loops, and used to hold up the baggy trousers with their legs rolled as a mock hem. Both feet are usually bare, despite her propensity for running around the scrap-yard grabbing sharp metal pieces for her father. She wears a rag tied around her forehead to hold her hair back, and collects them whenever she can get the money for them.
Her face, besides the crushed cheek-bone, is roughly heart-shaped, with high-set eyes and a tall, but short nose. Her lips are small, but stretch a decent portion of her face's width, the right side cutting off more abruptly where the muscles jam against the poorly healed bone. This doesn't stop her from smiling, to show off her teeth, of which several are made of scrap-metal to replace the originals. Her hair is normally brown, and cropped to one handspan long, but she lets it grow out and get caked in grease and vehicle fluids, turning it into a technicolor clump of blues, reds, greens, and blacks.
Rydiyall is a hyperactive mechanic, always going on about random machine things. Whenever she has the chance to see new things, she glady takes it. The hyperactive attitude serves her well at work, because she never seems to run out of energy, or words. Her speech pattern can be summed up in one word, 'Tangent', as she is incapable of communicating a message without going off on at least one tangent. This makes her somewhat difficult to understand sometimes, but if one follows her tones, they can usually interpret what she means to say.History:
When she is actually doing mechanical work, she tends to be more subdued, saying little. She can easily switch between the two, allowing her to go from almost immobile mechanic to hyperactive sprinter in under a second. This confused her father for the first three years that she helped at his shop, until he realized that it was a coping method for her. Having seen several classmates older siblings go off to the games, as well as classmates themselves later on, she used her over-exaggerated emotional states to hide her pain. This had the side effect of all her emotions being over-blown, unintentionally. When she fell in love, everyone knew it within hours, and when he died in the games, she went absolutely silent for three months.
Her attitude has grated on a few people's nerves, especially peacekeepers, who find her behavior to be similar to those canaries they use in district 12's mines. Constantly noisy until something goes wrong. The ones who spend a lot of time in the district have started to just tune her out. Her work shows itself to be exceptional, and she manages to eke out a living from it.
Born in the year of the 46th games, her parents had found her to be just another one to add to their work force. Her mother was a baker, helping convert their meager rations into something useable, while her father and older siblings worked on fancy cars from the capitol, as well as the less fancy utility vehicles used by some of the richer parts of other districts. Her three older brothers and one older sister had reacted the same way, priming her for the work she would be doing in the future. This led to her getting her first major scar when an unsecured engine block dropped off the vehicle her oldest brother was fixing. That brother suffered a broken arm that never really healed properly, but it left Rydiyall with a lasting injury that would impair her ability to eat properly. The scar on her ear came from another accident where her and her father had been pushing a driveshaft into place when she was just ten, and the vehicle had slipped its harness. The rear wheels rolling backwards spun the driveshaft, which filed off her ear and knocked her to the ground before her father managed to catch the middle, his pinky getting torn off by the joint in the middle.Codeword: odair
When she was twelve, she dug up an old military vehicle with the residue of a white star on the side, and with her father's help, started re-building it as a side project. That same year, she lost her second oldest brother to the games in his seventeenth year. Over the next couple of years, her youngest brother died from an incident in the scrap-yard where a pile collapsed on him, and she managed to get her recovered project running, sort of. She managed to talk some peacemakers into giving her some white paint so she could restore the star pattern, although she gave it her own flair, mimicking the text on the sign above her mother's bakery.
Before the 16th reaping she was alive for, her father fell ill. It had happened before, but this time, he couldn't recover, and died in his sleep. Now, her one surviving brother took over the business, and did his best to ensure that both sisters were safe, preparing himself to volunteer if he had to to protect them from the games. That was, if one of them got picked this year, since it was his last year of eligibility. Both sisters urged him not to, and insisted that they would be fine, as none of them had needed to get any tesserae yet, although the work was hard. And now, without their father to help out at the shop, the remainder of the family was hoping desperately that none of them would get drawn, so the family could survive the next year. Rydiyall even resorted to working extra hours to get more projects done in time, so that they could make more money without resorting to hand-outs, or starving to death.
Comments/Other:
The vehicle she found, and subsequently repaired, to use as a rolling workshop is an M520 Goer, with the brake pedal being replaced by a lever taken from a scrapped hydraulic jack, and a stylized star painted on the driver's side door. The steering wheel has been moved to the middle to leave more room for tools, and the bed has been replaced with a flat-bed to hold a vehicle up to twenty feet in length.
Her name is pronounced like Radial, as in the tire.
