Briella Alcott {District 4}

Briella Alcott is a rather average-sized 17 year old, about 5'4, and a little on the thin side in comparison to her district friends. She has chestnutty brown hair that lightens to an almost dark blonde in the summer months. The ocean salt never comes out of her hair, no matter how many times she washes it. She likes the smell of it (even though it ruins her natural curls). During the prime fishing season, her hair reaches midback in beautiful waves. She particularly hates them, and she'd rather have her curls all year long.

Bri, as her close friends call her, has a unique appearance that some envy and some barely notice. Her features are sharp; her big eyes and lips balance out her nose, which is a bit pointy. Her eyes are an average brown but they stand out because of her thick eyelashes.

If Briella walked past you without making eye contact, you probably wouldn't notice her too much. Her appearance, at first glance, is nothing special. However, if you take the time to look into her eyes you might see just how beautiful and symmetrical she is. Her hair compliments the shape of her face, which compliments the rest of her body. She can dive from a cliff into the ocean in a perfect straight line. Her calves are built from years of walking in the sand and swimming.

All these qualities are important to Briella's appearance, but there are two things that make her very unique. First is the minor gap between her teeth. She isn't a fan, but everyone says it's cute. Many people say it makes her look like a baby, which really annoys her and can get her VERY upset. She wants to be seen as a mature, intelligent being, but her gap makes people think she is still too young and innocent to know of any truth. The other thing that makes her unique is a branding on her left shoulder, shaped like a question mark. It gives her appearance and character a bit of a mysterious aire.

Briella Saige is a very intelligent girl for her age. She writes poetry for fun and loves reading as well. Briella would describe herself as a free spirit. She runs along the beach with feathers in her hair and can rarely go a day without swimming. Even though the public sees her as a friendly girl without a care in the world, she carries burdens as well. These mostly deal with her mother and her curiosity about Panem's system. She would travel to each district if it was allowed. The public can see Briella as a bit silly and even childish but in reality she is very informed and intellectual.

Briella has one major flaw... she's a liar. She is borderline pathological but no one knows because her lies are trivial(except for the ones about her mother- but no one has any reason to question them). She lies about her whereabouts, because she'd rather be swimming with the fish than killing them. She lies about how much she eats, because she actually hates seafood...
She lies about being happy, because she isn't content with where her life is heading. She wishes her mom was with her, but at the same time, she is angry with her for leaving. Sometimes this anger carries over into her everyday life. Briella is known to get frustrated easily when commanded to do certain tasks..her laziness is always prevalent. She carries a large amount of anxiety on her shoulders. When her anxiety and anger combine, she gets violent and throw things. She has a good arm from casting lines all her life; you wouldn't want to get hit with anything she hurls in your direction!

Briella is open to all people and not very judgemental. She loves to learn. She has a special place in her heart for the lower districts, especially district 8. She always is wearing one faded, woven shirt that was imported from district eight. Briella knows that if she had a choice, she would be there working with textiles. Sometimes, while digging for clams, she pretends she is digging to another place where she can truly be free and happy. This is a major relaxer for her and calms her anxiety.

Briella doesn't realize how good she has it. She is sad for dead tributes, for poor families, and for those who mourn the dead, but she doesn't really understand the reality of Panem's situation. She has a curiosity in her heart to learn more about the corruption and become more educated than she already is, but for the moment she just doesn't understand how lucky she is to be in district 4.

Briella lives with her father, Evander, and her best friend Kalira Jayde. Briella has no siblings, but she counts Kalira as a sister. Kalira never knew what happened to her parents, and Evander took her in when she was only 2. Briella's mother was present until Briella's 3rd birthday, when she mysteriously disappeared from district 4. From what she's gathered from Evander's short answers, her mother had snuck of to the capital in search of spontaneity and riches. The family knows she's alive because of a short 4 second glimpse of her in the audience one year during the Hunger Game's interviews. Evander claims her to be pompous and materialistic, but Briella thinks that maybe her mom had a better reason to escape there so suddenly.... still, the fact that she had attended the interviews leaves Briella filled with disgust.

When Briella was 8, Kalira accidentally dumped a few large fish hooks into a fire they were having on the beach. She picked them all out with a stick, but flung one onto the sand by accident. Briella unknowingly laid down on it while it was still hot, causing a branded question mark shape on her upper left shoulder. She used to hate it, but is now kind of proud of it.

Briella has endured more than 10 really serious panic attacks in her lifetime. When her anxiety gets too much to handle, she starts to sweat, breath heavily, and sometimes she faints. The worst time was 2 years ago. She was about to dive off a cliff, when all of a sudden her friend Langston came up behind her. She was already in a bad mood, and he almost made her fall off the cliff. Her anxiety went so high that she threw a punch and made his nose start to bleed. Seeing him bleed really scared her, and she became so faint that she lost balance and fell off the cliff. She hit her leg on a rock on the way down which broke a few ankle bones. Langston saved her from potentially drowning, and dragged her on the beach. He left her there. Since that day, they haven't spoken. Langston used to be almost as good of a friend as Kalira, but now they barely make eye contact. It is another burden that Briella carries with her daily.
