Appearance:
Standing at 5 feet 4 inches and weighing 103 lbs, Melea appears to be just another typical girl, but she refuses to accept the role. Her tanned appearance betrays her girlish charm and tells tales of hours of training and conditioning her body. Her lightly bleached, shoulder length brown hair tells tales of time spent out at sea, swimming and diving, for hours on end. Her fingers are scarred and calloused as she struggles to create better and more effective fish hooks and traps to rid herself of her perpetual boredom. Her brown eyes, sparkling with mischief, gazes not at people themselves, but towards heart, questioning their every intent.



Day to day, she is found dressed in simple clothing, allowing her to move freely without hindrance. On those few special occasions, she would don a dress and act as well-natured girl, opposite of her daily life. No matter what outfit she wears at the time, she always has a small pink pearl around her neck.

Personality:
Melea understands her role in society quite well, but chooses to defy it every way possible. She acts like a tomboy, not just because she enjoys the life, but to prove a point that she can't be tamed by society. Though she has had formal training to be a respectable lady, she would use it instead to practice survival talents. Sewing clothe became stitching wounds, acting polite became lying, and dressing formal became wearing camouflage.

Her hotheaded nature tends to get her into trouble, especially with the career tributes. She detested how career tributes would pick on the other kids for fun and so she would conveniently step in the way of the tributes and test her training. Regardless of how she might have done, she would let herself lose in the end and play as the victim when authorities came to break up the fight. Her compassion has her protecting the oppressed at every opportunity she could find. Despite her intolerance to the rules of society, she knows intimately that some lines are better not crossed and some battles cannot be won, nor fought at all.

She isn't the smartest, nor the brightest kid, and so she instead gave into hard work to develop her skills. Her curiosity is what defines her. Whenever she saw something she didn't understand, she would continue to ask questions until she fully understood. Many days, she would be seen talking to fishermen, learning from their experience as well as offering her take on situations. She would be considered diligent and hard working had she been born male, but instead adults considered misbehaving for learning trades that a girl in her social class would have no use for.

History:
Melea was born into a middle class family of three. As the middle child and the only girl, she was conditioned to become a wife of a higher class family. As a little girl, she was always found wrestling with the boys instead of having tea parties with the girls. Always, she would get pulled aside by the adults and reprimanded, which only made her disobey the adults even more. By the time she was 8, most kids learned to their distance from her, except for a few career tributes offering her a place among their ranks. Abhorred by how the career tributes would act to the other kids, she not only refused them, but declared war on them and everything they stood for. In order for her parents to groom her into a lady, they began filling her schedule with classes on formal etiquette.

Whenever she could slip away (which happened more often than her parents are willing to admit), she would spend time learning from fishermen on the secrets of surviving using only the sea. She learned to fish, crafting everything from the pole to the hook herself, as well as to create traps to catch even the most stubborn sea life. She was shown how to create knots for every situation as well as how to create rope from the fibers of plants. Swimming and diving became as natural to her as walking and running.

When caught, she was confined to the house for a few days and there she would intensely strengthen her muscles as well as increase her flexibility and agility. If she wasn't exercising, she was developing a new hook or trap to share with the fishermen the next time she could sneak out to the docks.

Her parents conceded to her disobedience and let her roam freely when she turned 11, giving her at least a year if for cruel fate she was to called to the games. During her teenage years, she took the freedom and defend the targets of career tributes. She became a hero to the bullied and targeted by the careers.

There is a rumor that goes around the children of district 4. One day, a career tribute was bullying a small kid on the beach when a girl came running towards them. When she reached them, she knocked out the career tribute with a single punch. Despite the rumor, only 2 sets of footprints were found on the beach that day...the boy's and the career tribute's.

They say that the career tribute resigned his spot as a tribute to the little boy the very next day.
