Appearance: Kythera Mendeez is thin, weighing only about 120 pounds, which is small for his age. He is approximately 6 feet tall. This combination of relatively tall height and low weight causes him to have a bony appearance. His arms and legs are are long and lanky, giving a spindle-like appearance. He wears mostly clothing such as raggedy short-sleeved shirts and cargo pants, sheerly because he find them comfortable. He has no idea of the concept of fashion and doesn't really care.
Kythera's hair is about shoulder length and is jet black. It oftentimes hangs in front of his face but he rarely notices, as he oftentimes is looking inward. His hair is of a course consistency, and could most simply be described as wiry. The way it hangs over his face allows it to sweep inward toward his eyes. This bothers many people, some of which try to adjust it, causing Kythera to momentarily panic.
He has an angular face with a harshly cleft chin. His nose is ridged from being broken on multiple occasions. His eyes are a dull grey color, making it seem that he pays no attention to what is around him. His skin is pale because of how much time he spends indoors. His skin is mostly alright, aside from a few pimples on his forehead. He has deep bags under his eyes, as he often goes nights without sleep, silently wondering why people don't like him.
Personality: Kythera's personality is, on most occasions, nonexistant. He spends hours at a time sitting on the ground/grass/floor staring off into the distance, seeming to do nothing. This habit causes many people to believe that he has some sort of mental issues. He does, of course, but not in the sense that many assume. Kythera has a case of savant syndrome.
All though he has an near perfect memory, he suffers from strong social disorders. He doesnt particularly enjoy the company of others, and rarely speaks two words in a day. Despite his apparent disadvantages, Kythera is of an extremely high intelligence level, with an I.Q. bordering 180. He is easily startled, and when he is he goes into a state of instant panic. These panics can last for any amount of time from seconds to hours, and possibly even days.
Despite the fact that he may appear to be cold, he actually is a very caring person. This is shown by his interactions with his father. When he is talking, he is polite but at the same time can be brutully honest. Since he cannot understand how other people think, he does not realize that some of the things he says can be hurtful. His outer shell hides an inner desire to belong and have friendship.
History: Kythera Mendeez was born 3 weeks premature, on the day of the 45th reaping. His mother had trouble with the pregnancy as well as the delivery, causing Kythera to suffer from brain damage, and his mother died in the process of giving birth to him. From that point he was raised by his father. Luckily, his father was and remains to be very patient with Kythera and panics during every reaping, for fear that so much pressure coul be put on his already-fragile son. This is probably the only reason he has made it as far as he has in life.
When Kythera was young, he talked much more than today, though still not very much. When he was put into school, Kythera discovered that he was unlike many of the other children. He did not understand their expressions, nor could he comprehend the meanings of them. Trying to fit in, Kythera mimicked laughter. Unfortunately since he did not understand humor his laughter was often inappropriate and caused him to be shunned by the other children. This caused him to retract and pushed him into the state of near silence he is currently in.
Throughout his life he has had no friends (save his father) though since he has not experienced friendship he has no lust for it. When he sees people these days, he rarely even notices them.
