Gender: Female
District/Area: District 2
Appearance:
Fletcher is a fairly short girl with a height of 5"2 but she certainly makes up for it in spirit. She's quite slim, not too skinny but not too big, as she would say. Her hair is a dark brown, pixie cut that is quite often found as wild and untamed as a Capitol mutt. Her teardrop shaped face and button nose are covered with freckles, a feature that Fletcher is quite proud of (although she will never admit to it, so don't bother asking her). Her eyelashes are long and dark, and her eyes are hazel, and for some reason they almost always seem to have a mischievous twinkle in them.Personality:
Fletcher suffers from claustrophobia (due to a rather traumatic experience as a child) and as a result, she hates clothing that restricts or confines her movements so you will normally find her in practical garments that allow her to move freely.
Fletcher is a feisty 16-year old who shows fierce love and protectiveness for her family and friends. She is highly loyal to those she loves, and she respects her elders, but does enjoy a bit of mischief from time to time. She does most of her scheming with her younger brother Archie but, despite having a hand in things, he never seems to get the blame. This can sometimes cause sibling rivalry which has been known to end with Fletcher threatening to tie Archie to her archery target.History:
Having trained for the games for most of her life, Fletcher knows how to handle a fair few weapons. Her favourite (by far) is most definitely the bow and arrow, mainly because she has a natural knack for it, but it is also partly influenced by her family as it is their traditional first choice of weapon dating back to as far as anyone can track. Her second choice of weapon is the sword. She loves the weight of it in her hand, especially when it balances perfectly. If she has to choose a blade then she would prefer a sword, but if that's not available then a nice dagger or set of knives will do.
Fletcher also has a lot of stamina and is a fast runner. She has a good head for heights and is a quick climber, but she can sometimes get complacent which causes her to lose her footing and fall. (This has happened to her several times in training but she still hasn't learned...)
However, Fletcher doesn't train with the goal of winning the games unlike every other resident of district 2. She trains because she wants to know how to fight in case a rebellion ever happens. She would never say it but she secretly hates the Capitol and despises the whole idea behind the games.
Despite wishing she is the perfect child, Fletcher really isn't. Being quite hot-headed, she tends to get angry pretty quickly. Unfortunately, this also happens with jealousy (which is what she feels EVERY time she sees Saffra with Rowan, but that's another story...). Fletcher is also very cautious; something that has its advantages and disadvantages. She knows that trusting the wrong person could potentially cost her her life if she was ever in the situation of a tribute, but she has also been taught that if she doesn't seem approachable then no one will want to form an alliance with her.
Some of her more serious flaws are ones that she knows could jeopardise her chances of survival if she ever becomes a tribute. After experiencing a rather frightful ordeal as a young child, Fletcher now suffers from claustrophobia. She HATES small spaces, especially if they're dark, damp, and smell of earth. Her worst nightmare is being buried alive - all that soil piling up on top of her, closing in, cutting her off from life - (can we please change the subject? I think she's going to pass out.)
Fletcher's other main flaw is her "act first, think later" approach. While this is handy when she needs to act instinctively within a confrontational situation, its not so handy when she needs to carefully consider realistic options.
Fletcher was born to Warren Narrowshoot and Valeria Narrowshoot (neé Galloway) in their home in district 2. Her father works as a stonemason and her mother works on the market.Codeword: Odair
Being the "Capitol's pet", district 2 receives a better lifestyle than the other districts so naturally Fletcher has had quite a comfortable childhood. However, this hasn't stopped her seeing right through the Capitol's propaganda that is spoonfed to them at school. She is appalled by the games and feels nothing but nausea when she imagines herself being reaped as tribute. Although the expectation of district 2's residents is to live up to the name of "career", and volunteer as tribute, Fletcher swore to herself that she would never volunteer. However, over the years, this view has changed. She realised that Archie could potentially be reaped and, whilst most families would see that as an honour, Fletcher couldn't even begin to imagine the pain she would feel if she had to watch her brother fight for his life. She knows now that if Archie ever got reaped, then she would volunteer as the female tribute so that she could make sure he gets home safely. He may only be 2 years younger than her but he's more than just her brother; they are best friends, and she would do anything to protect him.
It was mentioned earlier on that Fletcher suffers from claustrophobia as a result of a bad childhood experience. Unsurprisingly, it was her dislike of the Capitol that caused said experience. When she was very young, Fletcher would loudly criticise the Capitol and all that it stood for during her lessons at school. Every single teacher had reprimanded her as severely as they would allow themselves for such a young child, and her parents had been informed of her "outrageous behaviour" several times. They too had punished her in an attempt to stop her making such profane comments, but to no avail. It was only after the head peacekeeper of the district came to do a talk in the school's assembly that Fletcher finally learned to keep her personal opinions to herself. She rather blatantly insulted the Capitol and its workers in front of the head peacekeeper, who ordered for her to be locked in the smallest cupboard that the school had to offer and not be let out until an hour after the school day finished. Fletcher, who didnt like the dark as a child anyway, was forced to remain in her 'cell', which was pitch black, cramped, and full of stale, musty air. When they finally unlocked the cupboard at the end of the day, they found Fletcher unconscious having passed out.
Fletcher dreams of a rebellion that will bring down the Capitol but she has long learnt her lesson that anti-Capitol views aren't something she should freely express. She wishes that someone would stand up to the Capitol so that she could join the fight, but she's not brave enough (or stupid enough) to rebel on her own.
