The smell of your skin lingers
on me now
you're probably on your flight back to your hometown
on me now

Saphire colored eyes look down at the ground as the small career walks past the group of guys that includes her ex-boyfriend, Mason Redwood. They haven't spoken in a few months and he all but ignores her. She sighs, wishing this day to be done so that she could go and curl up in her barrack away from the prying eyes of her ex. She'd broken up with him for personal reasons because she'd needed space but she still liked him. She just couldn't get up the nerve to talk to him. Why am I such a coward? I can't even go up and talk to him she thought harshly. She knew she was being hard on herself but she couldn't help it. She hated having broken Mason's heart. She also hated the fact that she knew about his darker side. The one he rarely ever showed. She headed over to the archery station and started shooting lessons with the instructor. The instructor smiled at her kindly as Saphire pulled back her golden blonde hair and took aim at the target. The bow, in her small hands, felt natural, like she was born to use it. She drew back and fired, watching the arrow streak across the space and embed itself in the center of the target. Smiling triumphantly, she looked at the instructor who nodded in approval. "Nice shot, Saph" a voice said from across the gym. She turned and looked to see who the voice belonged to. It was Mason of course. She blushed a little bit and smiled. you're going to have to talk to him eventually her inner voice told her. Just shut it, I can't talk to him, I broke his heart she thought harshly, trying to shut the voice up. This voice wouldn't leave her alone, ever. It was like having someone else living inside her body with her and she hated it. The voice never shut up.[/size][/blockquote]

As Saphire left the training center later that day, she heard footsteps pursueing her. She turned to see one of the other guys from the gym running to catch up with her. He fell into step beside her and smiled. "Hey, you're Saphire, right? I'm Gordy. I saw your shooting back there and I have to say, I'm impressed" he said. Saphire laughed, tossing her golden hair back. "Meh, that was easy, I could hit the target with my eyes closed if I wanted to" she said, smiling at him. He whistled. She didn't normally brag but it was a fact, she'd done it before where she'd hit the target with her eyes closed. Gordy kept his eyes trained on her and she felt a blush creep over her cheeks as embarassment swept through her. Its obvious he's into you the voice in her mind said. She tried to shut it up as Gordy flirted with her but to no avail. Ever since she was little the voice has taunted her because it's like having another person in her body. you can fight me all you want but I'm never going away the voice taunted in her head. She looked into Gordy's eyes to see if she could tell him all about it but he didn't understand, no one ever did. She sighed and started to walk away. Just then, a hand caught hers and stopped her. "Hey, don't go, please. I was just being a flirt. I don't mean to offend" he said, turning Saphire so that she could look at him. His eyes were an odd color, Silver. Silver, thats an odd color definitely her inner voice said. For once, she agreed with the voice.
I hope you know
I hope you know
that this is nothing to do with you
its personal myself and I we've got some straightening out to do
I hope you know
that this is nothing to do with you
its personal myself and I we've got some straightening out to do
Gordy, surprisingly, offered to walk her home after training was finished. As they walked along the street towards the house, she found herself looking down at the clothes she'd changed into. She felt a little self-conscience with Gordys eyes being fixed on her, she didn't normally grt this kind of attention from anyone other than her sister. They were what she typically wore on a warm day like today; jean short shorts and a tank top with flip flops. She adored these because they were light and allowed her to cool down after training. "Wow, you look good" Gordy said making her blush bright red. "Thanks, I think" She said. Gordy laughed. She found she liked his laugh. He has a nice laugh She thought. For once the voice stayed quiet. She smiled charmingly as they approached her house and Gordy, sensing they would be parting soon, took her hand possessively. His hands were warm but firm as he held onto her hand and she tried to gently pry them off but he wouldn't let go.
And I'm gonna miss you
like a child misses their blanket but I've got to get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
And big girls don't cry
like a child misses their blanket but I've got to get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
And big girls don't cry
Before she entered her house, she saw her father in the window and knew that Gordy would have to let go before her dad saw too much. Come on Gordy, let go of my hand, you'll get me in so much trouble She thought desprately. Her dad didn't want her having any boyfriends ever since she broke up with Mason. He wanted her to focus on her training as a career, even though she hated it. She was good at it but she didn't want to ever go into the arena and be forced to kill someone. She thought all likfe was sacred. A personality trait her father didn't understand. Gordy, still holding onto her hand, leaned into me and whispered something in my ear."Just go with it Saph, I know what I'm doing, your parents will love me" he whispered. She shivered at his closeness. She turned to look at her father who was looking at Gordy with a clear question on his face. Saphire tried to explain but Gordy wouldn't let her talk. "Hello, Mr.Butterfly, I'm Gordy. Saphire talks about you so much, its a pleasure to finally meat you" he said smoothly. Saphire watched in amazement as her father actually smiled at Gordy. He didn't normally like other guys but Gordy had known exactly what to say to get her father to like him. "Saph, why don't you both come on in. I'd like to meat your boyfriend" her dad said. She was about to protest but Gordy wouldn't give her a chance. "That would be wonderful, Saphire's told me so much about you. " he said. Her father smiled as they entered the house. She had no choice but to follow him as he still had her hand. She didn't like this, he was way too possessive
The path that I'm walking
I must go alone
I must take them baby steps
till I'm full grown
I must go alone
I must take them baby steps
till I'm full grown
As she entered the house, Gordy still didn't let go of her hand. He led her into her living room where her father was sitting in his chair, smoking a pipe as was usual for him. Gordy finally let go of her hand but pulled her down onto the couch next to him and put an arm around her. Her father watched them with a slight smile on his face. "Saphire, you never told me you had a boyfriend" her dad said. She was about to deny it but Gordy beat her to it. "We wanted to keep it a secret, you know, keep our romance private" he said smoothly. Why is he doing this Saphire wondered. She knew exactly why, he was possessive and had wanted to be with her for a while. This he must have seen as the perfect oppurtunity. She decided to just go with it for now and demand to know what the hell he was doing later.[/blockquote]
Fairytales don't always
have a happy ending do they
but I forsee the dark ahead
If I stay

but I forsee the dark ahead
If I stay
After about an hour, Gordy decided it was time for him to leave. He kissed Saphire on the lips before heading out the door. Her cheeks burned. Without looking at her father, she raced upstairs and locked herself in the bathroom. Downstairs, she could hear her sister coming home from training. Cranberry talked with their father for a few minutes before coming upstairs to try to get her out of the washroom. "Saph, are you alright? Dad said you ran up here after your boyfriend left" her sisters voice sounded through the door. Saphire unlocked the door and let her sister in. "no, I'm not alright. I've been forced into a relationship with a guy who doesn't respect me and is possessive." Saphire cried. Her sister nodded. "I had a feeling he wasn't actually your boyfriend. You'd have told me if you were seeing someone" her sister said, handing her a tissue. Saphire took it and blew her nose. "Thanks sis" she said. Her sister smiled and left her in the washroom[/blockquote]

A few days later, Saphire saw Gordy again. When he saw her, he smiled and walked over to her. He put his arm around her and pulled her into a hug. "Hows my girlfriend?" he asked. Saphire looked into his eyes and smiled. "I'm good, how's my boyfriend?" she asked, sending him a silent challenge. I'll play your game, Gordy, I just hope you can handle me she thought, smiling. He murmered something about being alright and led her over to one of the stations. "Race you around the track" She challenged. His eyes lit up and he nodded. She took off like a cheetah, running as fast as she could. She could hear him running after her and soon her caught up to her. "I didn't know you were so fast" he said, panting. She smiled. She noticed her sister watching them and made a note to talk to her later.
Now I'm gonna miss you

Exiting the training center, she caught sight of her sister. She ran to catch up with her and they linked arms like they always did when they were little. "I thought you didn't like Gordy" she said. "I don't, I've just decided to go along with it. He's actually not too bad, just a little possessive. she said. "Fine, but if he hurts you, he'll be sorry" Cranberry promised. Saphire nodded. She and her sister had always been really close even though they were rivals. It had always been that way between the two of them, ever since they could hold a weapon. Their father had trained them to be careers but Saphire would much rather be a boy-crazy girl than a tribute in the games. Her sister was much more into the whole career thing and often tried to convince her to work harder at training just in case she ever got reaped. Saphire smiled at her sister as they headed home, knowing that everything would turn out alright, when she got sick of Gordy, she'd just tell him off and he'd leave her alone.
