Metis Bell, District 4

Metis has thin black hair cut in a bob to her ears with small sea green eyes that have thick eyelashes. She has a heart-shaped face and small, full lips that are often seen in a smile. Her skin is tanned with dustings of freckles on her nose and shoulders, and on her hands and feet she has developed hard calluses.

Metis is of an average height, about 165 cm. She is petite is figure - and not very 'womanly' - but with strong muscle definition. In particular, she has very strong shoulders and thighs due to her rockclimbing. She stands straight and tall, in complete contrast to her quiet nature. Metis only ever wears simple clothes, shorts and shirts mostly, and hates dressing up.

Metis is friendly and approachable, but has always been a solitary person. She prefers to be on her own instead of with other people, particularly when it comes to her studies. Metis loves learning and spends a good deal of time reading and working for school. She is very thorough in her work and incredibly focused, so once she has started something she won't stop until she has finished.

As Metis spends most of her time watching others instead of participating, she sometimes find social interaction frightening and is easily intimidated by others. She is quite easily influenced and sometimes will be passive in spite of her values as she does not like confrontation. She tends to she away from other people's affection. However, she will always stand up for people she loves. She is incredibly loyal, the trait that she values most in other people.

Metis always tries to consider everyone's feelings involved, putting their needs above her own. This great capacity for empathy is one of her strengths, as she easily understands other people and is reluctant to judge others, however this sometimes turns into her trying to please everyone, which only hurts herself in the end. Metis hates bullies, and would never do anything to deliberately hurt another person.

Metis was born and raised in Discrict Four with her parents Deana and Tucker. Her home is a lighthouse on the edge of a cliff, as her father is the lighthouse keeper, making sure the fishing boats always come home. Due to her location, Metis took up rock climbing in her early teenage years, using the cliffs near her house, finding the concentration needed the perfect mental escape. Metis's home is quite isolated, suiting her personality. She, living in district four, is also a competent swimmer.

Metis's love for learning was developed early as her mother is a teacher at one of the District Four schools. Interested in everything, Metis has read extensively on Panem's history, geography and culture, but particularly on biology, and more specifically marine biology. Metis has a very knowledgable understanding of aquatic ecosystems, but only theoretically; she doesn't know how to fish, or possess many of the other practical skills that are known to many in District Four.

Metis had a difficult time adjusting to school as she found making friends hard, but over the years she has developed a few close friends - two girls in particular, Sky and Lucile. Fiercly loyal and protective, the reaping every year is a source of great anxiety as she fears for those close to her. She never had any family problems, her parents jobs always keeping them well fed and happy, meaning she has never had to volunteer for the tesserae. Her friends, on the other hand didn't have the same luck as Metis, as Sky and Lucile's names have been entered in over 20 times each. As the 61st games approach, Metis is worried for her friends more than ever.
