Xylan Hertz
He sits in his room listening to his parents talk. He's bored, and has nothing to do. Apparently someone told his parents he like throwing rocks at other people. He doesn't want to face his father. He knows his father is going to be mad. He can tell by the yelling right now. Running away right now seems like a plan, but that wouldn't be the best option. Might as well face them. The wind howls through the shattered window in his room. He looks down at his fist. Scars from the glass runs along his hands. It probably wasn't the best idea to send his fist through it.
A smile appears on his face. For the first time in a long time he's smiling, but it won't last long. His mother and father are stomping towards his room. His heart begins to race faster the closer they get. He takes a couple deep breaths when his door opens. "Xylan Hertz!"His father yells at the top of his lungs. Xylan slowly lowers his head."Explain yourself now!"His father is angry, and there's nothing Xylan can do about it.
He can't talk to his father, and his father knows that. He can't explain himself as he has no idea what's going on, well, at least that's what he wants his parents to think."He can't explain himself."His mother says standing up for him. She doesn't want him to be in a lot of trouble. His father smirks. "That's right I forgot. Xylan can't talk. He doesn't know how to talk. He'd be best off being sent off to the Capitol to work."His father has gone to far. Xylan stares at his father amazed.
They are so inconsiderate! Why would his own father taunt him like this? He doesn't understand. Anger surges through his body. His face turns red as his blood pressure sores through the roof. He moves his hands around in circles trying to remember the sign language that his father taught him, but he doesn't. He can't think straight. He does the only reasonable thing he can do. He storms out of the room as fast as he can.
They hate me. They all hate me.Xylan thinks to himself as he runs away from his parents. He's never had any trouble from his family before, but today is different. He slams the door shut on his way out. He stops and turns as it bounces back open. He runs fast away from his house. The wind whistles through his ears as he runs. The hair on his arms stand straight up. It's then he realizes he left without his jacket. He keeps running though. He's not going back home though. He doesn't look back. He keeps going. He won't stop for anything. He only stops when he reaches his safe haven.
The bright light of the early morning sun beams down on him through the clouds. The wind blows ever so slightly. His hair slightly ragged from the winter blows around making him angrier. He rubs his hands up and down his arms trying to warm himself up. He's glad to see the snow has stopped. He's been dying to be outside without snow for once. He's not afraid of freezing to death. He walks closer to the fence that surrounds district twelve.Running away would be fun right now. Not having to worry about parents. It would be fun.
He's considered running away before, but he can't leave his brothers and sisters. He slowly sits down on the meadow and stares out past the fence. Maybe one day.He lays down on the ground with his hands behind his head. He feels safe here. He doesn't have anything to worry about. He knows his family won't follow him. Nobody follows him when he storms away angrily. The sun conceals itself behind the clouds leaving him to face the cold.
