The Trainers at the center will be pissed with me, no doubt. So will Tyrannus, if he ever finds out where I'm going. I'm sure he'd gut me at the inkling of a thought that I'm going to spend time with Kaelen Dempsey, a wanted criminal. (He guts me just looking at me.) The house is a shack at most, decaying and dirty, but it is more homey than anything I know. The door creaks when I step knock, stepping inside at the call of come in.
Kaelen Dempsey. He's a strange person, to say the least. There is passion in his eyes, a graceful power in his step, but he is cold. He's a mixture of feelings I can't figure out, even if I can pick out flashes of anger and surges of respect. Today, he'd invited us over for training. Just a few of us, the few who can fight. He's testing us, it seems, the brawlers. The trained ones. He needs to know if we're good enough to teach the others, to help them pick up their lives and throw themselves full force at the cause at hand. Kaelen's actions are so rational, so purposeful, that I can follow his plans easily like a diagram or a math problem. He is calculated and senseful and I admire that more than anything.
When I'm fully inside, he's sitting in a chair in the living room, reading. His face is mildly surprised, but I do suppose I'm early. (I had to sneak away before Tyrannus could see me. He'd follow me if he saw. We're so opposite, but he's the math problem I can't solve.) I greet Kaelen by way of a sheepish smile, shrugging my shoulders at his questioning face.
"I suppose I'm a little early, sir."
