Name: Audra Lightburn
Age: 16
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 5
Appearance:
Well
I have a weak right ankle from an accident when I was eight years old. My brother, who had been four at the time, was playing with the decorative rock wall outside our house that had been slowly eroding over the years. He was flipping the loose rocks over trying to find bugs, or digging holes with them. You know the usual four-year-old kind of stuff. I had been helping to rake and gather leaves from our yard to help keep up the aesthetic. My mom had told us that she heard members from the Capitol would be coming to the District some time that day and she wanted our yard and house to look in tip-top shape in case they passed by. As I was carrying the huge load of leaves I had just gathered to throw into our burning pile at the back of the house I had not noticed a particularly large hole my brother had made and left unattended. The next thing I knew, leaves were flying every which way and I was on the ground with a broken ankle. It took eight weeks to recover, but to this day, that one ankle is still tender.
Despite my weak ankle, I like to jog around our district fence, and what I guess you can consider my neighbourhood. I love to run and I am pretty fast. I also enjoy climbing trees. My mother always has to come out and look up at the trees to call me in for dinner. Being fast has helped me escape the torment from the boys I wish I didn’t know. They have tormented me ever since I can remember. My mother says it’s because they like me, but I think that’s a funny way of showing it. I wish I could hike up the hills and mountains I see beyond the fence, but of course that’s not a possibility. I overheard my brother ask my mother why we couldn’t cross the fence. She basically told us there are huge forces beyond the fence that will kill us. Not to mention that the fence is full of our own electricity. My father told us plainly, “You want to stay alive you stay inside the fence. You want to die? Touch the fence, or do it honorable and wait for the Games.” What can I say, my father likes to get to the point and doesn’t like to linger.
I enjoy wearing jeans or pants made out flexible material. I wear flannel shirts with a wool jacket in colder weather and cotton shirts or linen blouses in warmer weather. I like dresses in royal colors made out of satin, rayon or cotton or other materials. I knit my own sweaters make my own clothing out of whatever other materials we have that come in from the Capitol and found for trade at the market. My mother taught me to make my own clothing considering we have to mend our clothing as well. I have to help make my brother’s and father’s clothing. You will find me wearing pants more than dresses and skirts because of the fact that I feel freer in them. I also feel more protected
Personality:
Overall, I have a witty, down to earth, and sarcastic personality. Considering the years of bullying I have behind my belt I am also a little distrustful of others and certain situations. In school, I get pretty decent grades all around and I tend to help people who are nice to me if they are stuck on a particular subject. People tend to try and play the battle of the wits with me because of my sarcastic sense of humor. Then again I get many people who find me approachable and ask me for advice or help,
I like to lay low in the background when I can. I tend to sit in the middle of the class at school considering the “cool”
I have long since realized there is no getting out of this place; though, I so long to just deactivate that fence, tear it down and run as fast as I can into the hills
My life is decent enough. When I am not annoyed by my brother, or being bullied by secret admirers I enjoy the day to day. I survive. I have loving parents who try to do the best for their children. I live in a nice one floor house that is clean and tidy with a large tree out front for me to climb. I go to a school and deal with as well as learn from a nice teacher. This is my life here in District 5 and may the Games be always in my favour
History:
The Lightburns have lived in District 5 for as long as I can remember. My mother Lucy and my father Arron are still happily married and continue to support one another as well as my brother and I. Our one floor house has three bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen/dining room, and a living room. Most of our activities happen in the living room, or outside in our backyard. Arron is a Geophysicist who studied out of the Capitol. He had been selected as one of the best in his class to go. He is a major supporter of the Capitol for this reason. Arron goes out and studies the earth and the areas where it is best to set up power plants as well as new projects such as channeling the electricity in lightning to use as a power source. Lucy is a seamstress and a housewife considering Arron feels it is only right that he provide for the family; although, Lucy secretly writes fiction and wishes to publish poetry or a novel someday.
Arron and Lucy met while at school. They were practically inseparable and their family homes were close to where they currently live. Lucy waited for Arron while he completed his schooling and then they got married. Although he was certified from the Captiol, Arron had difficulties finding a job. Many thought him overqualified. Therefore, they lived off of the little Lucy made from her clients by being a seamstress. Finally, the company Arron works for now took him on and never regretted it. Within a couple of years after their marriage, I was born
My childhood was relatively normal
Now, nothing is really that much different except for the fact that my brother continues to perfect the art of being a stubborn, nosy pervert. The more I think about my life after my last potential Reaping the more I wish to have a marriage similar to my parents. I want a smart husband who loves me and I him. I don’t know about having children though… I don’t want to subject them to the Games. However, if things were different, then… maybe I’d have two kids. Who can say, what will be will be.
