Appearance
Ian Charson is a young man of above average height. He is built rather like a tree. He is just under six feet tall and weighs about 120 pounds. He is incredibly thin, with all his ribs showing, but he doesn’t seem to be able to gain any weight. He has no fat on his whole body and has only a little muscle. Despite this, he can do hard, sustained, physical labor for relatively long periods of time. He is long in the arms and they almost touch his knees. His height is mostly made up of his torso. His chest and shoulders are broad as well, adding to the tree illusion. His hands are long as well, almost eight inches. He wears a size fourteen shoe. His head is perched on a thin neck and topped with a curly bush of dark brown hair.
His head is shaped like a slightly pointed oval. He has a thin nose that is slightly pointed. His eyes are spaced wider apart then the average person, giving him a wide view of his surroundings. The color of his eyes is easily compared to dark walnut. He has a small mouth filled with beautiful white teeth the color of mother-of-pearl. His lips are usually a little chapped and he regularly carries around a small stick of chapstick. He has small, almost straight eyebrows. His face is smooth with a few acne scars near the top of his forehead. His skin is pale, very pale. He does not get sunburned easily, but doesn’t tan and he enjoys the sun.
He usually doesn’t care about the clothes he wears. He tosses on a clean t-shirt and a pair of pants that sometimes don’t match. He always makes sure, always, to wear his lucky jacket. It is a dark black, worn leather jacket. It is scuffed, but clean. His jacket, unlike most other leather jackets, has a black cloth hood sewn onto it. He has one pair of brown, green, and black sneakers and one pair of black, mud encrusted boots. While he is looking for build materials he usually wears his boots. When he is out with Tony he’ll wear his sneakers. Many times though he chooses to go barefoot, and because of this he has thick calluses on his feet. While he is out collecting materials, he wants to keeps his hands safe so he wears a pair of black half-fingered gloves that he usually forgets to take off.
Personality
He is the same as any other person, well almost. He has schizophrenia. He is a somewhat lonely young man and is often seen by himself. He is a pretty simple person, just wanting to hang out with the few (hallucinated) friends he has, especially Tony. Tony is a hallucination Ian has grown quite attached to. Ian is rather timid and shy, especially when he is alone. He is somewhat dependant on Tony and when he is not there Ian quickly shrinks up inside himself and becomes very antisocial, saying almost nothing and stuttering and stumbling through the words he does manage to get out. With Tony he is very optimistic, constantly finding something to be happy about, but when Tony leaves, Ian devolves into a nervous wreck, incessantly worrying about every little detail.
Ian is generally aloof and uncaring, unless Tony or a Voice tells him to care. The only thing he personally cares about is keeping Tony around, which usually involves obeying the Voices every command. This is because with Tony he is confident, brave, and noticeably more sociable. When Tony is not around, getting him back is all he thinks about, even to the point of obsession.
He sometimes can act quite child like. He isn’t very eloquent and tries to hide behind others when he is able to. This is due to the fact that he only has a fifth grade education.
He often builds things. This is his passion. It is only second to Tony. He builds with anything he can lay his hands on. From rocks to sticks to sheet metal to plastic, if he can move it, he will build with it. His room is filled with models of the things from all around the district in various stages of completion. Little stick figures adorn every available place, not only in his room, but all around the house. He builds exquisite miniature houses out of bits of metal, rocks, sticks, plastic, cloth, and adorned with all manner of baubles and doodads. Entire cities cling to the shelves and walls of his abode. He takes long walks with Tony through the forest and the rest of the district looking for things to build with. His closet walls are lined with tools. He, quite obviously, collects tools of every fashion. Hammers, nails, screws, screwdrivers, drills (cordless and by hand), chisels, squares, rulers, planers, and saws of all sorts. He has them all.
He doesn’t care about “real” people that much. He does not get close to people easily. He was never close with his parents and so doesn’t know where they are or how they are doing, nor does he care. He has very few “real” friends. His best friend is definitely Tony and he likes to spend all of his time with him.
History
Ian Charson was born to Aidan and Rachel Charson. He was of average size and weight and was born healthy. He was a curious child, always exploring and getting into things. At round five he discovered he liked to make things and begun making crude objects. He began to attend school and quickly made some friends.
When Ian was ten years old, he started going off alone during school and just sitting there. All the other kids and teachers just thought he was weird, and he was, for awhile. Eventually he stopped hanging out with the few friends he had in favor of being alone. When he was eleven, the voices started. He would do odd things at random because the voices told him to. At first they were quiet, and outlandish things could be ignored, but, like any person, they didn’t like being ignored. They became louder, more demanding of his attention. He started to talk back to them. During school once there was a particularly bad episode resulting in him stabbing another child in the arm with a pencil because a voice told him the child wanted to hurt him. Despite the child’s protests telling him it was a lie, he still ended up with the tip of a pencil in his arm. Suffice to say, he wasn’t allowed back. When people asked why he did it, he told them the voices told him to. Obviously, that didn’t go over well. Everyone avoided him, even his parents tried to stay in different rooms when he was around. To deal with the loneliness, “People” arrived. Many came and went, some only stopping to tell him to do something or go somewhere, and then abandon him. Some would stay for awhile but eventually they all would leave. Except Tony. Tony came, then went, then came back. Ian quickly became attached to him. He would “follow” Tony everywhere. Before doing anything he would consult Tony for advice. Ian was happy, but still a freak that stabbed someone. The peacekeepers started to stay near his house watching the odd child talking to himself. Eventually, Tony came and told Ian they wanted to take him away, to lock him up, to kill them. They talked about it constantly. This was, of course, a complete lie. But because Tony said it, it must be true, right? So they made plan. One night, Tony came to Ian’s house, it was time to go. Ian stuffed his hallucinated provisions and clothes into a bag and ran away. They ran around the district until they found a small alleyway to sleep in. Tony told him to go to sleep so they could leave in the morning. When Ian woke up, the (hallucinated) food and clothes were gone, and Tony was nowhere to be found. Of course Ian had to find him. He looked for days walking all over the district. He eventually found Tony scoping out a house. It was Veronica’s house. She took them in, playing along with Ian’s delusions. And he has been living with her ever since.
For the first month Ian always had his guard up and rarely spoke to other members living at the house. He spent most of his time building and talking with Tony. As he became more familiar to his surroundings he loosened up. He building out of his room and leaving his creations around the house. He began making projects for other people and talking with them. He now spends most of his time building things and hanging out with Tony or other members of the house. He not ordered by the voices as much but it is still relatively common.
