Dustin Johnston District 7

Dustin is 6ft 2 and has a slim but athletic build from his time working in the forests. His shoulders are broad and his build lean - you would think he could run a marathon with relative ease. Due to his long walking through the forests of District 7, strenuous work and minimal food, he has very little fat on him and his body is well toned. Not muscly, just well defined. His pectorals are covered in short, curly hair and his skin olive from his long days in the sun.

His light brown hair is short and curly, roughly cut by one of his younger sister with a pair of blunt scissors. His face is fair, with smooth skin other than stubble along his rounded jaw line. His nose long, slim and straight as an arrow down his face.

His eyes are the defining feature of his face. Icy light blue, many a girl has lost her heart staring into them. But when angered (or passionate), they burn with an icy blue flame that burns into the admirer's soul.

Dustin is far more mature than his 16 years, entrusted with the responsibility of supporting his family with his mother following both his father's and older brother's deaths.

He has an intense bond with his family, given the tragedy in his past. He would do anything for them, and his love for them is unbreakable.

One may think that given his past, he would have trouble connecting with others. However, Dustin instead regards people on their character and without judgement. He has a fierce sense of justice and takes situations logically and with much thought and analysis.

Dustin is driven by competition - he dislikes nothing more than losing and will do anything to win. This can lead to him lying, cheating or bending the rules to get what he wants and to finish on top.

Dustin is tempted by the fame that could come with victory in the Hunger Games, as he can be rather egotistical and cocky (which isn't helped by his good looks). However, he does wonder whether he would have the nerve should the time come when he has to kill another child. His love for his family would be the only thing that could provide him the strength to betray his morals.

Dustin was born to Julia and Herring Johnston as the second oldest, with one older brother and five younger sisters. It was clear from an early age his love for nature, often sneaking after his father left for work to follow him into the forest. Dustin became so quiet walking on the ground, nimbly treading silently across the ground until they reached deep enough into the forest that it was too far for his dad to return him home.

It was from his father that Dustin learnt his woods-manship, creating a perfectly crafted chessboard at just the age of 7.

At the age of 12, just four days before his first reaping, Dustin's father was killed in a logging accident. Devastated by the loss of his father, Dustin and his family were further struck by misfortune when Dustin's older brother, Jostin, was drawn at the reaping that same week. Jostin was cocky and filled with arrogance, and he died in the first day after entering the bloodbath to retrieve weapons and supplies.

Dustin didn't have a chance to mourn the death of his father and brother, forced to help his mother provide for Dustin's younger sisters. Dustin learnt quickly how to fashion a deadly spear from a simple straight branch, determined that should he ever be reaped for the Hunger Games that he would be prepared and do his best not to meet his brother's fate. Dustin became so accurate he could occasionally hit a flying bird with one of his thrown spears.

Of course, he has taken additional tesserae for each of his sisters and mother every year and probably has more entries in the reaping than any other District 7 16 year old. Dustin hopes should he be reaped that his skills may be enough for him to at least survive longer than his older brother Jostin
