Appearance:
Thalassa Marks is a tall fifteen year old girl who is thin but fit. She weighs around 135 pounds and reaches a height of 5 feet 8 inches. Thalassa has defined arm and leg muscles due to the fact that she swims for a job. Her skin is slightly tan, only because she was born that way. Her father makes sure she wears a protective, homemade substance before she goes swimming, so she doesn't burn her skin. Because she is always swimming, Thalassa can carry objects of at least 50 pounds. She can hold her breath for very long periods of time.Personality:
Thalassa has long reddish-brown hair that falls to just below her shoulders in beach waves. It smells of the ocean as she is always swimming. She always braids her bangs back to the right and will sometimes put her hair in a messy bun. When the sun falls on it just right, her hair will appear to be so red that it is on fire. When there isn't much light, her hair looks like a very dark brown.
Thalassa's name means the sea, because her eyes are the exact same shade as the ocean. She has big aqua blue eyes that look like they were made from the sea itself. Her eyes are the first feature a person is drawn to upon meeting Thalassa. When she is angry, however, Thalassa's eyes will turn a shade of gray, much like the ocean does when there is a storm. Thalassa has a slight lazy eye on her right eye that isn't very prominent until she is smiling, which is a lot.
Thalassa is thin but fit. She has medium sized breasts, a thin waist a slightly wide hips. Along her left leg is a scar she received while in a shark attack at the age of four. It is about 15 inches long and starts at the base of her knee and reaches to just above her ankle. The skin never grew back properly, however, so it has remained a reddish color even to this day. Thalassa, when she wears shoes, has size eight feet. She prefers to go barefoot, however, and only wears shoes when her father forces her to. Thalassa is always wearing torn up jean shorts that go to her upper thigh. She wears an array of colorful tank tops, usually in shades of blues, oranges, and yellows. Around her neck is a blue seashell necklace her father made for her.
Many people describe Thalassa as a pretty girl. She is not overly glamorous, which seems to attract more people as she isn't trying to get their attention. She has an oval shaped face and a rounded chin with smile lines around her eyes. Her nose slants downwards and has a spray of freckles across it. Her ears are slightly pointed at the top, causing kids to call her an elf when she was younger. Her lips are a light shade of pink. She has a pleasant smile, with one crooked tooth and slightly yellowed teeth.
Thalassa is very outgoing and not afraid to do new things. Many times, she will test herself to see what her breaking point is. She is very loyal to her friends, to where she has told them she will die for them. Because of this, she only has three closest friends; two boys and a girl. She in turn trusts them with her life. However, to people she is not close to, she is only polite to. She only trusts a person after they have shown a true act of friendship. She values her relationships with her friends more than anything else.History:
Thalassa does not enjoy school. She accepts that it will help her excel in life, but that doesn't mean she has to enjoy it. Even though she has this opinion about school, she strives to get good grades. She does this for two main reasons: to please her father, and to push herself to always do better. Doing her very best is important to Thalassa. It always has been ever since she was young, when many people told her that she wouldn't amount to much.
Thalassa hates the Hunger Games. She hates the Capitol even more for advertising the Games as a sport. Thalassa doesn't like to associate herself with others in her District that train to be Careers. She can't bear to think of them killing defenseless kids who haven't been given the opportunity to train like they have. Because of this, Thalassa often gets into fights with the Careers at her school.
Thalassa was born in the year of the 48th Hunger Games to Eric and Sara Marks. She was named Thalassa because her aqua blue eyes matched the color of the ocean perfectly. She was born into a family that had a fair amount of money, enough to put food on the table every night. She was born in a wooden shack on the beach that her father built for his family.Codeword: Odair
Thalassa lost her mother when she was three. Sara was in a boating accident as a young girl, leaving her with a weak heart. Thalassa only remembers a few memories of her mother. Thalassa's father wasn't born into a very wealthy family, but earned his way to a fair paying job after showing remarkable fishing capabilities. Thalassa has a twin brother, Caspian, who died a week after birth from an inborn lung disease.
Thalassa, in her younger years, was teased a lot. People would make fun of her pointy ears and the fact that she had no mother. Many times, this would send Thalassa running home and crying, where her father would comfort her and distract her with stories of her mother. Thalassa was teased all throughout elementary school, until she was twelve, when she earned her peers' respect by saving a five year old boy from a rip current. Although she now has her peers' respect, Thalassa still feels the urge to prove something to herself, something she will probably always live with because of her painful childhood.
Thalassa was in a shark attack at age four. She had been swimming out at the ocean, searching for some seashells, while her father had been sitting on the beach and had dozed off for a minute. During that one minute, a huge Great White shark had swum up unnoticed and grabbed Thalassa's leg, pulling her under. Her father woke up to bloodcurdling screaming and thrashing. Looking out at the ocean, he saw his young daughter kicking at the water fiercely, which was quickly turning red from blood. He managed to kill the shark after beating it on the head with a very heavy piece of wood. Thalassa was then rushed to the nearest medical facility, where she nearly died. She had lost more than 60 percent of her blood and gone into shock. The medically trained people managed to stop her excessive bleeding and sew up her injured leg, but her skin tissue had been so severely damaged that it didn't heal right and left a very big scar. To this day, because of the incident, Thalassa has an uncontrollable fear of sharks.
