Erik could hardly believe his luck when he learned that the victor mentoring him was the one and only Arbor Halt. His first hero. The teen who showed the country that anyone can win if they tried hard enough. The one that set the standard for district twelve for years to come. And though their district hadn't won since the fifty-seventh hunger games. it didn't diminish what the victors had done in the slightest; at least to Erik. Sierra and him had been waiting in the room for several minutes now, and he could feel himself growing giddier by the second. Here he was, about to meet one of his heroes in person. He didn't know what his district partner was thinking about, but then again, he hadn't really had a chance to speak to her at all.
The frail looking girl wasn't one for talking, and in fact, Erik found himself a little worried about the volunteer. The only time he had heard her say anything was when she had passed the jar around in the dining hall. What was that all about? Still, he made an effort to smile at her when he wasn't attentively watching the door, and after a few more minutes had passed, he finally just turned to face her. "This is pretty exciting isn't it?" And why wouldn't it be? Moments like this did not come very often in a lifetime, and Erik was ready to remember this for the rest of his. He wondered idly if he should just stand there mutely or gush. Talk about past victories or ask for an autograph and a half dozen other things he had always thought about when it came to meeting a celebrity.
