Reverie Lane Fosco
Female
18 years old
District 6
Appearance
Reve always seems to blend in. Rarely being one you would call beautiful, she can easily conceal herself beneath her own disguised appearance. She seems normal enough when you look at her; in fact, there is nothing really special, unique, or out-of-the-ordinary. However, Reve’s face is hard and unmoving. Her expression is cold and heartless, almost detached from the world itself. Reve’s eyes are deep brown, only a few glistening hints of light color hidden in them. Her eyes seem narrowed, almost like they were meant to be that way, while her thin eyebrows seem to be furrowed with disdain. But otherwise, her expression can also look seemingly bored sometimes, and maybe even a bit lifeless.
Reve’s lips are soft and icy, and while her nose is slightly large, it still defines good proportion. Her face is smooth, with only a few hints of imperfection. She has a few light freckles along her nose and cheeks, although they are almost invisible, unless you’re standing close up. In that case, rarely has anyone, or will anyone see the freckles on Reve’s face; no one gets close enough to her. to them.
Reve’s thick brown hair only completes her facial features. Her hair is for the most part, wavy, although it definitely has the ability to be straight. Her hair has a very thick coarse texture. In the winter, it remains a bit darker, while in the summer, it seems to capture a lighter tone. Seemingly, it always has a bit of red in it too. However, just like Reve’s freckles, the red color is quite subtle. Many people, who do tend to notice Reve a bit more, are captured by her hair. If there’s one thing she does in fact like about her appearance, she would say it has to be that. The thickness and the volume of her hair can be quite nice when she fixes it up. Though, in other cases, the volume only makes her hair messier, and even quite frizzy. In that case, she ties her hair back.
Reve’s skin is rather fair. She can tan a bit in the summer, but fact is, she is usually pale. Her face reddens easily, usually only from exhaustion, for Reve rarely feels embarrassed enough to blush. Her hands are fairly small, along with her fingers. Her feet, too, are very minute. Overall, Reve was built a bit smaller, but nevertheless, she is not defined as weak.
Reve has a fairly stocky stature. She isn’t exactly big; she’s just not skinny to the bone. This is only because of her slight lack of growth. She’s a bit shorter than many of her age, at about 5’4’’. She still has a bit of slimness though, just in a unusual way when compared to others. She’s merely built a bit differently, which is something she doesn’t particularly like about herself.
Personality
Reve has detached herself from the world, for reasons people don’t seem to understand. She always keeps her distance, too afraid to get too close to people. She needs her personal space in order to keep herself from becoming vulnerable to cruelty, to manipulation, and to the unreliable forces that seem to catch her when she falls. Reve has convinced herself that she doesn’t need people to make her happy; all she needs is herself, the one person she can trust. Reve only makes things harder by telling herself that she can’t trust a soul. She closes herself off from the rest of society, putting a lock on her heart. She does even more damage to herself than she knows. By locking away her soul, her heart, her everything, she seemingly has nothing left to give. Reve tries to occupy herself with other things, and ignore people and their feelings wholeheartedly, but sometimes, she seems to fail.
Reve comes across as very cold, almost cruel sometimes. She tries to stay indifferent to the world, thinking on a more literal level, though there are moments when she can’t help but see beauty flashing before her eyes. Reve has a balanced view, when it comes to optimism and pessimism. She isn’t necessarily depressed, although she definitely does have pessimistic moments. However, she uses a slight amount of optimism to carry her through, to keep her from falling into depression and insecurity. In fact, Reve often attempts to convince herself, and others, that she is very secure in who she is as a person, even while, truthfully, her insecurity is what shapes her arrogance.
Reve used to be a happy, caring, sweet girl. Though, experiences changed her into a cold paranoid young woman. She doesn’t trust people anymore, not a soul. She views them as all the same, and knows that she can’t risk getting close to people anymore. Reve puts herself above others, and does everything for her own benefit. She doesn’t care about others’ feelings, nor does she listen to what they say. In fact, Reve can be fairly stubborn when it comes down to it. She doesn’t have friends, and she isn’t interested in making them. She keeps to one mindset, and she follows through with it, or at least tries.
Reve is unsympathetic when it comes to others’ concerns. In fact, Reve enjoys a good fight, whether it be verbal or physical. Fights remind her who she is, and who she used to be. They make her think that she is strong, and that she left her weaknesses behind with time. Fights also tend to remind Reve how supposedly imperfect people are, and how much they owe her, how much life owes her. She isn’t afraid to steal, either. She’ll do it out of anger, out of frustration, out of hatred, as though life has still never paid her back. Will it ever?
Though Reve is a fighter and even a thief in some cases, she is actually extremely intellectual. She is extremely smart, and when she has nothing else to do, she thinks. She has boundaries for her thoughts though; she doesn’t daydream, or set things out of proportion. Instead, she thinks very literally, but deeply at the same time. She takes herself through the levels of math and science, but she never really applies her thinking, her learning to her life. Her extreme intelligence and her extraordinary knowledge is like a footnote on a page of her life: just a detail, nothing signifant. Yet, her eagerness to learn is one of the only things that keeps her from falling headfirst into her empty void of lost feelings, or in other words, depression.
In many ways, Reve is hypocritical. She accuses others of doing things that she assumes is only okay for her to get caught doing. She uses excuses for everything, never taking the blame on herself. In many situations, she is arrogant, never letting go of the fact that she is supposedly right.
History
Reve was born into a family of doctors. Her parents were creators of different types of medicine, and did their best to find cures to certain types of sicknesses. They created multiple remedies for the Capitol, and were not only intelligent in medicine, but also in other science fields such as physics. Reve liked her family; she felt like she belonged, considering she shared their passions. Her parents taught her quite a bit of science while she was still a young child, and she grew to enjoy it.
Reve wasn’t only happy with her life; she was happy with the Capitol. If it weren’t for them, her parents would have never had the chance to be doctors. As brutal as the Capitol could be, they were undeniably helping Reve’s family financially. Reve’s younger sister, Tegan, didn’t feel quite the same way. Tegan hated the Capitol which, in fact, only led to more clashing within the family.
Reve was about three when her younger sister, Tegan, was born. She loved her sister from the beginning. When Tegan was brought home for the first time, Reve could barely contain her excitement. She spent days just looking down at her younger sister, wide-eyed with wonder. As Reve grew older, Tegan was her companion; and although Reve was three years older, she loved to help and guide her little sister. They got in fights often, for the two of them had many differences, but in the end, both of them knew how much they cared for each other.
When Tegan started school, Reve became extremely protective of her younger sister. She walked her to school and back, and always wanted to make sure her sister was alright. Though, it was obvious that Tegan wanted her personal space; Tegan started growing apart from Reve, and slowly, they started breaking away. Tegan made friends with people whom Reve did not approve of; many of Tegan’s friends were rebellious, troublemaking, and Capitol-hating. They came from some more dangerous families, and so Reve was worried. Tegan’s attitude started changing as her friends became even more influential on her.
Reve started listening in on Tegan’s business, trying to figure out what she was up to. She was extremely upset to be losing her sister, and tried everything in order to get her back. Though, Reve soon found out that Tegan was part of a plan, or otherwise, a group that was on the verge of rebelling against the Capitol. Most of the kids in this "rebellion plan" were older, but somehow, Tegan, who was only twelve at the time, had been let into the group. Reve started tracking the group, though it left her in utter confusion. However, she soon decided that the only way to stop Tegan and her friends was to use threats. So, she told Tegan she knew about their plans, and threatened that if she didn’t back down and leave this rebel group, Reve would report her to the Peaceekepers. This created a turning point in their relationship.
After a while, Tegan stopped talking to Reve altogether; it was obvious that Reve was going to turn the group in sooner or later. Though, Reve was insistent on keeping her sister safe; she promised herself only to turn in the other members of this secret group. Tegan, however, started using threats herself. In fact, one night, Tegan ventured into her sister's room while she was asleep, a knife in her hand. Then, she tried attacking her own sister, but luckily, Reve woke up just in time.
Reve ran from the scene, and in the middle of the night, hurried to find peacekeepers. Reve told them everything: from the fact that there was a rebel group planning to start an uprising, to the fact that her sister had just appeared over her bed, ready to stab her with a knife. The peacekeepers took Tegan away, and after that, Reve only saw a few of the rebels around town, possibly the ones who had gotten off the hook. Reve was paranoid about them coming after her, but she soon realized, they did their best to avoid her anyways. However, Reve always remembered her sister’s last words as she was dragged away. “I’ll kill you, Reve!” she had said. But after that, Tegan was gone. Reve never saw her again. Nothing left to worry about. No insane thirteen-year old left to confuse her.
Reve tried to forget about her sister, and even more so, tried to convince herself that it was Tegan’s fault in the first place. Reve believed that turning her and the rebel group in had been the right thing. Though, the memory haunted her. Reve's parents tried to forget about Tegan too. They had known Tegan was all deathly trouble from the beginning, so they sought to leave the memories of her behind. They moved on. Tegan had just been an accident in their life.
Though, the event changed Reve. She knew, from then on, that she couldn’t trust people. She had spent her whole childhood trusting Tegan, and then, she had turned on her. Reve slowly separated herself from the world as time went on. She spent a lot of times, alone in her room, just reading through science books and medical procedures. She became her parents’ right-hand assistant in the medical field. However, she didn’t do it because she wanted to help heal; she did it because science and math helped clear her mind.
