Jacob Ryder || District 3

Jacob is an attractive young man by most standards. He has a friendly face with soft features. His skin is quite pale, yet covered in freckles. His eyes are a rich brown that lie behind long eyelashes. His thin eyebrows are normally hidden behind the bangs of his thick, jet-black hair. The boy's hair is combed to the left, neatly being kept out of his eyes. Jacob takes pride in his hygiene, as seen by his white teeth and pleasant smell. His rare smile is kind and crooked.

Jacob isn't very tall, only matching up to most girls his age. He has a slight hunch; leaning forward is probably why he appears so short. Along with his lanky figure, Jacob is incredibly scrawny, as is expected of people from his lower class. Of course this means he isn't very strong, but he can handle himself in a fight. He's fast and scrappy. On his back you can find many scars from the fights he got into at school. The most prominent of which as a small white one in between his ear and chin.

Jacob has a particular style when it comes to clothing; he wears whatever he can get his hands on. His pants are always riddled with holes, much like the rest of what he wears. His jacket is an olive green with patches on the elbows. His shirt is thick and red, just like his scarf. His hat is a dark blue ski cap knitted by his "aunt". Due to the severe pollution of his District, he often wears a raggy bandanna over his mouth and nose. His shoes are the same; they're falling apart, held together only by duct tape.

To sum him up as simply as possible, Jacob is a quiet prodigy.

Jacob is a genius. Simple as that. At the tender age of 5 he constructed a computer all on his own. He was smarter than most kids in his school. Not many liked that. After a brutal childhood of bullying and tragedy, things became harder on Jacob. He became numb to the emotional pain, developing a dark sense of humor in the process. His way of staying out of trouble is being silent. At school he won't speak unless called upon in class. He doesn't have any real friends, so talking to girls is almost out of the question. He's not exactly shy, but he feels as though a social life would just bring on more trouble.

Jacob is still a kind boy. He's polite and easy to get along with, it's just yard to break through his shell. Being quiet posed a problem though. He has ideas. He pents up his hatred and disgust of Career tributes and Capitolites. But he really can't stand the rich pigs that live in the northern part of his District. He can't comprehend how desk workers get paid for doing nothing while factory workers like his family struggle to eat daily. Bottling his emotions is taking its toll though. He's slowly falling into depression. Who knows when he'll snap?

Of course he's still a good person. Jacob cares for others, sometimes more than himself. His care for his younger sister Mikayla is proof of that. He's charismatic when he feels like it, but he finds most people boring. His stoic nature turns most people off of him anyway. He says he doesn't care about other people, but deep down, just maybe, he's lonely.

Jacob was happy once, believe it or not. He had a whole family; his father, mother, and younger sister. They were all happy. His father, Maxwell, was a conductor for a train that carried goods to the other Districts. Jacob’s mother, Karrie, ran a small store in the town square. Maxwell would always come home with some strange knick-knack or toy for the children. The kids never knew that he couldn’t do that, so they never questioned it. They weren’t rich, but they got by. And they were happy.

But Jacob and his sister Mikayla never knew that their parents were doing something illegal. Whenever Maxwell came home, he would also bring many stolen goods from the Capitol and Career Districts. Karrie would take many of them and sell them in the back room of her shop. They would make enough money to spread the wealth among some of the poorer residents. Maxwell would also give many District 3 goods away to some of the poorer Districts. All was well until they got caught. Jacob’s parents were taken away and executed.

Nowadays, Jacob still lives with Mikayla and a family friend by the name of Matilda. They get by, with Jacob working in a factory, and Matilda in a 24 hour warehouse. The kids go to school, where the boy is constantly picked on. He gets beaten for the amusement of the taller and stronger kids. He finds his school situation ironic when compared to the situation in real life. But no matter where he is, or what he does, he is always trying to be beside Mikayla, trying to protect her.
