Val was never a fan of these sorts of things. Unfortunately they just went along with the territory and had to be tolerated - but that didn't mean she had to enjoy them. Still, she was stuck here at the Solstice residence for the next few hours, forced to smile and nod at all of their silliness. Yes, Cricket was in the finals and yes, they'd done a good job preparing her but where she was now was the girl's doing, not theirs. Every single District Two tribute was well trained, Val saw to that herself. But it took someone special to actual win.
The gorgeous brunette felt that she herself would have made an excellent tribute and even though she understood the Games far better now, she still would have liked to compete. Which brought up another issue - Romelie Solstice. The girl had been a star pupil and eventually chosen to volunteer in her eighteenth year, an honor that was not extended to Val. But the girl had had the nerve to remain silent at the reaping! Honestly it had made Val furious to see someone waste such an opportunity.
Still, here she was all dressed up in her Capitol trainer's uniform forced to listen to all their senseless prattle. "Please, excuse me for a moment," Val smiled as she bowed out of another district official's opinion on this year's Games. Wishing to make the most of her short bout of freedom, Val ducked out of the main room and into what appeared to be some sort of study.
With a deep sigh, Val dropped into one of the ornately carved wood chairs, the supple leather cushions worn but still comfortable. "Fuck..." she breathed as she made to rub her eyes before remembering the makeup she had one. She couldn't even touch her face without the Capitols permission and it made her sick. Surely she'd have been better off as a victor, right?
