After an entire night of wandering, I found myself in huge supply of silk webbing that practically became invisible by the time it was close enough for me to touch. Several times the sticky stuff had caught my face, and caused me to hopelessly swat around like some kind of ridiculous child. I wished I were. I wished my biggest problem was that I kept running into spider webs, but sadly, that was only the tip of the iceberg that brought me my displeasure. I was in an arena fighting for my life. Only six others stood in my way. (I quite liked most of them.) Hell, half of them kept me alive throughout my time in the arena, and I managed to become stupid enough to attack one of them only yesterday. But that wasn't me.
I couldn't blame Opal for not wanting to get close to me, one of, if not both of us would be dead soon. In my moments spent in the chaos, when I felt myself snap, it was just her my eyes found first. That pretty hair of her's dancing in the wind. She was beautiful, in more ways than one. She was beautiful in the way that she always seemed to stare at the trees around us, the plants that were so full of life, even when we were so close to death. She was beautiful in the way she wielded her weapon, elegantly and with perfect grace. She was beautiful in the way that she always had that quiet smile that she rarely allowed herself to have. And I tried to ruin that beauty.
I could feel him inside, the monster, laughing at his work, excited for more. No. He couldn't hurt anyone else! He couldn't- he couldn't make me do anything bad, not again! But there was a feeling inside that I was wrong. Completely wrong. If he wanted blood, he would get it. My eyes closed as I came to a stop, resting against a tree that wore webbing like an article of clothing, and listened to the silence. Only sounds of insects and my own breathing filled my ears, until I heard the footsteps. I sat up, my hand instinctively grabbing my knife. They were human.
My first instinct was to run. To get as far away as I could. I stood, and only took a couple of steps before I felt myself slipping. He was taking over. I sank to my knees, my hand working to open the purple bag I had gotten at the feast. I was rewarded with a jar of tar, the same stuff that claimed my arm- and my sanity as well. I dipped my blade in it, and sent it flaming to life with care. A cold smile melted across my lips, and I turned, walking directly toward the noise. My mind begged me to stop, to do the logical thing, but my feet had their own plans. I came to a halt behind a tree, the footsteps so close now that I could tell the person was right on the other side. Careful steps, each one delicately taken. For a brief second I hoped it was Sierra, but the fact that I was going insane, and the fact that Sierra was dead made me shake it off. My grip tightened around the knife, it's black black shimmering in the early morning's light. I charged, a new hunger for death scratching down my throat.
I was instantly greeted my a face that made the monster disappear, if only for a second. Opal. The very same girl the monster wanted dead, the very same girl I was glad got away, and the very same girl I found again. I almost wanted to yell at her for being here, to scold her for finding me, but I couldn't. I couldn't speak at all. I could only swing my blade at her. So I did.

I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones
enough to make my systems blow
welcome to the new age, to the new age
