District 4: Hester Pleasantview (wip)

Pleasantview is for the new parents. Lilly Pleasant and Emmett View, soon to be married. May this child be willing to help those in need, and make the right choices. Charity is for the neighbor, the kind woman who brought the child to her new home. The friend fed the girl and washed her whenever it was needed. She would never be forgotten by those she helped. May this child always be kind and merciful. Juliet is for child's oldest sister, who died at a young age from unknown sickness. The poor girl had finally fallen after years of illness. May this child overcome the obstacles in her life. Vine is for the father, who worked every day to feed his family. He fought those who attempted to hurt anyone, and protected his family with his life. He would not obey the unjust, leading to his demise. May this child be hard working and brave. Sabrina is for the aunt, who revealed the family secret to the peacekeepers to protect herself. May this child be honest, but careful. Myrtle is for the family friend. She was intelligent, and helped keep the secret for many years. There never seemed to be a question she could not answer. May this child be clever. Annie is for the cousin, a magnificent singing voice was gifted to her but she was too modest to accept the fact. Her life was singing. May this child be talented but humble. Hester is for the mother, who could not have loved her family more. She was known to point out the best in everyone, even those unkind to her. May this child learn to love all. May this child be all this and more.

That, in beautiful handwriting with a fine brown pen on a sturdy piece of white parchment was found in the hands of a sleeping, scrawny three-year-old girl on the porch of Lilly Pleasant's home one snowy December morning thirteen years ago. When questioned this founding remembered nothing. Lilly, the mother's closest friend took the child in and named her for her paper. There were no questions, and no answers. The young Hester kept her parchment with her always, deciding to live up to the huge task. Her parents were not Lilly and Emmett View. That was the only memory in her confused, young mind.

Hester was born and raised in District 4, the seafood district. She is content with the place and never wants to leave, no need to explore. She has been alive for sixteen years, thirteen with her current family. She is completely female, and heterosexual too. She is single at the time of this application, and is fine with the situation. She is usually in good health, and is of semi-sound mind. /justify]

In the appearance department, one might consider Hester boring, plain, or simple. The only thing that truly stands out is that somehow, even after swimming and being in the soggy atmosphere, she always manages to be dirty. Never muddy, just dusty. Wherever she goes she is in a bubble of dust. It clings to her clothes, her skin, her hair. Well, not as much her hair. That is one thing she is willing to wrestle with. Her usual apparel is a loose grey shirt and a dim violet skirt that reaches midway between her knees and ankles. During winter though, she changes into a dark, deep violet turtleneck and black pants. She changes clothes three or four times a year. Twice for winter and back, the Reaping, and once if she needs bigger clothes, which is why she always buys clothes too big for her. She does not wash her clothes, which might be one of the reasons she is always dirty. Underneath Hester's messy clothes, no matter the time, is a comfortable dark purple suit which she uses in both contortions and for swimming. She has one pair of socks, and gets a new pair every two years. Being recently sixteen she has a good pair on at the moment, though they are of course dirty. The Reaping brings it's own outfit for the girl. Her foster parents usually throw her into a tub and scrub her until she tickles. Then she shoves her fosters out of the room and puts her favorite color to use. Perfectly white stockings that belonged to her mother begin the cleanest action of her life. They will fit without rolling for the first time this year. Then she puts on a dark purple dress, usually locked in Lilly's trunk for clean keeping. It was a gift from her first Reaping, which Lilly fixed to fit her every year. It is very simple, no frills or designs. Just a flat dark purple dress that reached a few inches past her knees. Over the stockings come pretty slippers that used to be Lilly's. They are usually too big, and cloth is placed in the toes, and Hester's feet will never fit correctly. For her hair the girl uses a foot long dark purple ribbon matching her dress in her hair, a beautiful bow. It is made of silk, a ribbon that took Hester far too much working to afford but wanted it desperately. Occasionally she wears it on odd days or special days, such as birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. The final touch to the outfit is always something different. Lilly gives Hester a different bit of make up to use from the time she was twelve. At twelve it was blush, thirteen was lipstick, fourteen was mascara, and fifteen was eye shadow. At first she found it silly, then began seeing it as a custom. She looked beautiful clean, but right after the Reaping her old dust always returned without mercy.

Hester's hair is the only thing she is willing to fight to keep clean. Before she was eight it was terribly unwell kept. She then started to brush it and wash it, tired of the laughing. There, of course, was still enough to say about the rest of her body. She has silky brunette hair soft in a way that makes you want to run your fingers through it forever. It has hints of light, brighter color mixed into it, highlighting the already beautiful strands and gleaming on especially sunny days. The hair is a few inches past her shoulders and has very large waves throughout, throwing it's color in all directions. The parting is right in the middle, but thin, not showing many roots. Hester usually puts her hair in a rather complicated bun, twisted and spread over her head and losing a few strands. It is very tight and is not greatly effected by swimming, and keeps her hair out of her face while contorting. Occasionally her special ribbon is tied into the piece. On Reaping days her hair is in a very simple, low ponytail tied with that pretty ribbon. Every now and then, especially if she does not plan on contorting that day, Hester will keep her hair down. The girl's eyebrows are thin and the same color as her hair, just dimmer and not as smooth. No attention grabbers. Her eyelashes are long and dark, pretty if you notice them in her filthy face. She shows no extra facial hair, thank Ripred for that.

Hester's eyes are very pale hazel, swirling together hints of light brown, baby blue and lime juice green. They are usually very pale colors, but underwater they seem to brighten and burn, perhaps even glow. In the dark, like at night, they tend to darken, hiding the miraculous colors. Her eyes are usually focused on some distant thought, the pretty colors swirling in their almond shaped pot like ingredients to a soup. The eyes are very large, the sight very clear, maybe even sharper than usual. The lids close slowly, steadily, calmly with every blink. Downwards leads to her dusty nose, thin and short but pushing out. Separating the two small, round nostrils is a little bit of skin no thicker than the side of dime. Her bridge only gives off a very slight curve. When Hester is very nervous her nose might twitch, reminding you of a new field rabbit. Between the nose and top lip her philtrum is tight, and distances the two parts a centimeter. Her lips are pale and very, very thin, but smooth nonetheless. The upper rises slightly higher on it's two points than the lower on it's rounding, not like it's supposed to. Her lower lip is slightly thinner than the upper, often chewed upon as well. Hester's lips are not at all chapped, but the lower one is slightly peeled from the chewing.
