It had been two weeks since Jabber had died, since he'd been killed in the bloodbath. I now sat in the living room, all of us gathered around the television, watching the finale between Yaa from district seven and Opal from district one. I wanted Yaa to win because she'd been through so much and even though she was part of the group that teamed up against Jabber, I also respected her because she didn't like killing, she just did it because she had to. I felt tears prick my eyes as I realized that Jabber could have been there, if he'd just gotten the hell out of there, he'd probably be where Opal and Yaa are. He wouldn't be dead.
Mama turned off the tv, not allowing us to finish watching the finale, and I yawned, tired as all hell. I just wanted to curl up in a ball and go to sleep for the rest of my life. I blearily followed Violet and Mist upstairs to our room. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out like a light.
A shiver of coldness passed through me and woke me in the middle of the night. I blinked open my eyes to the dark room and looked around, trying to find the cause of the coldness. The window wasn't open, and the door was closed. Why is it so cold? I wondered. Suddenly, a figure appeared at the edge of my bed, manifesting and becoming solid. Within a few moments, Jabber Jay stood at the foot of my bed. I looked at him, shocked. "I thought you were dead" I said, keeping my voice down so that I didn't wake up my sleeping sisters.
