Not a sound could be heard, as I raced along the roof tops of the buildings in the lower part of the district. The wind whistled in my hair, around my body making a small smile slide onto my thin lips. I leaned into the breeze as it wrapped its thin arms around my body. For years I have been running along the rooftops of District two, jumping from roof to roof, leading me to understand the wind, and become- almost- one with it. I worked with it, using it strengths and weaknesses to strengthen my own; and today was no different.
The wind was strong tonight, howling through the roof tops, running beside me like a loyal hound. My smile widens as I reach the end of the roof which I ran upon. Leaping into the air, I tuck my legs beneath me and feel the wind push me forward. The wind was my partner in crime, it was part of me. Pulling my legs out just in time, they slam against the tiles of the next roof- but they make no sound. After all I had been trained for many years to be silently and swift. As silent and swift as the wind. Through all my training I had been told to use the elements around me, to understand them to communicate with them and become one with them. Most of the elements I have begun to master- but there is still ta few of them that have manage to slip through my fingers constantly.
But at the moment that didn’t matter. Tonight I was free, free to roam the district as I pleased. I didn’t have an assignment, or anyone looking over my shoulder. I was on my own. And I could do anything that I wanted. So why spend my time racing over the roofs of district Two? Why spend my free day running around, you may ask. Well this is why. Because I loved it. I loved everything about it. The way my body could twist and turn, could fly through the air, then land on the next roof, roaring and ready to go. Usually I wouldn’t show off, usually I would Have to be fast and swift- but on a night like today, I could really show off what I could do.
With that thought into mind I suddenly swerve to the left, my feet reaching the edge of the roof, my toes pressed tightly, for a moment, against the gutter. Then I jump, my whole body lifting into the air, I give a coo of delight before throwing my legs above my head. An artful front summer salute. Ha that was nothing to what I have done over the years. There was still way more to come. My arms fly out to the sides as I land on the next roof, my balance as perfect as ever. My heart was still beating from adrenaline and I take a moment to look behind me. The road beneath me was fairly quiet, only few people wandered around on the streets. Some looked up and pointed at me, faces alight with interest and delight. I couldn’t help but smile at their faces as I looked down at them, small beads of sweat forming on my forehead. I give a shirt one handed salute and a cheesy wink before torpedoing off again, my legs pumping and I begin my long run across the moonlit roof tops once again.
