Juggling a few dirty plates in one hand and a half full cup of iced water in the other Lucy made her way through the little diner with a smile and a nod at the few people mulling about. Business was slowing down a bit, the way it always did after The Hunger Games were over. The corner bar in the small room that had normally been packed with people drinking away their sorrows as the blood and horror scrolled across the screen had slowed to just the few regulars who were so consumed with the home brewed beer and spirits that they spent the majority of their wages keeping that hazed of booze in their veins. Some nights Lucy worked behind the bar, those nights seemed to be a bit more busy than the others, just because of her infectious smile and gentle way with the patrons. Today though she was out on the floor, rushing plates of food from the window to the tables and filling water glasses mixed with the occasional iced tea, District 10 didn’t have a lot of cheap places to go and Lucy Blues was always around.
“Yes sir, I’ll be right back with your sandwich and a fresh glass of water. It sure is hot out there!” her voice chirped like a little bird to the man sitting after a long day in the fields. Snagging another plate for her pile she made her way to the back of the restaurant and through the swinging doors to the kitchen, she had a little section in the back where she would toss the half eaten sandwich or left over deep fried potatoes, there was always someone who could use them. Scraping the unusable food off the plates she dropped them in the tub to be washed with a smile at the old man as she wiped her damp hand across her forehead, “It really is hot out there Gus. I swear somedays I think I’m going to melt.”
Just then the little tingle of the bell by the door signaled that a new patron had entered and she gave a shrug at the old man once more before headed back through the doors and onto the floor. “Hello! Welcome to Lucy Blues just have a seat where ever you want and I”ll be with you in a second.” She called out going to fetch a menu and a glass of water as the figure made its way to a table in the corner.
