Fay woke early in the morning, her mind awake and with a goal in mind. Today, she was going into the district alone. She wouldn't allow herself to continue like this, this shell of a girl she'd allowed herself to become. Her voice hadn't echoed through the house in a few weeks and she was feeling quite depressed. Her sisters slept soundly, their soft snores tempting her to go back to sleep but she would not allow herself to go to sleep, lest she sleep in and her brothers try to stop her from going out. She wouldn't go to her spot where she used to meet Jabber, going there would defeat the entire purpose of her trip. It was to distract herself. She got dressed in a pair of worn out jeans and a slightly cropped black t-shirt. She knew her siblings eyes, especially Wess and Mocking's eyes would probably explode but she didn't mind. She pulled on her black flats and ran a brush through her blonde hair. She smiled at her own reflection in the dusty mirror in the hall. Then, she headed out into the morning.
As she walked, she listened to the few birds that chirped in little trees that hadn't died. She walked, her feet making next to no sound on the ground, and she looked around. There were a few people out this morning, most of them just out doing what they needed. Fay smiled at a few of them, knowing some of them from her work, even though, she hadn't been to work since the reapings, having been excused because of family issues. She'd been in mourning, saying good bye to Jabber. She shoved the memories out of her mind and put her head up. She continued to walk, finding herself humming a tune as she went
Around noonish, she found herself in the heart of the district, the district square. It wasn't as packed as it had been on that horrid day Jabber had been reaped but she immediately wished she hadn't come here, She had memories flitting through her mind like birds, fluttering around inside. She turned away from the square, pushing the images from her mind, forcing them away. She walked quickly across the square and into the richer part of the district. She hadn't been here in a while, the last time had been when she was really little, younger than Violet even. She looked at the slightly nicer houses and wondered how she could get herself into one of those houses. She knew she'd have to work hard, triple times as hard as she did now. Even that, she didn't know if she'd ever get there. She continued walking, sweat beginning to bead on her forehead, She wiped at it absently, her mind not completely aware of what it was doing. She imagined raising a family here, if she could ever find love again after Jabber but she had a feeling that one day she’d be ready. She smiled to herself as she pictured herself fully grown and watching her children playing in front of the house with her husband standing by her side, holding her around the waist. Would she have as many kids as her mother, probably not, but she’d have a few kids, maybe two. Just so that they could keep each other company.
As she made her way back towards the square, she noticed a figure walking not far from her. Even though her instincts told her to be shy, she pushed them down and called out a greeting. “Hey” She called, a smile lighting up her face. She hadn’t interacted much with the people outside the family and she intended, for all intense and purpose, to get to know some of the people outside her family.
I spread my wings and I
learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky I'll
take a risk take a chance, make a change
and break away
learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky I'll
take a risk take a chance, make a change
and break away
