Dandy Gordon

Dandy kept her promise- she was a woman of her word after all. Almost immediately after the tribute train left the station, Dandy was knocking on the Strauss' door ready to greet his sister with open arms. However, Dandy wasn't sure if open arms were exactly what Sarah Strauss wanted. Still, sass or no sass, Dandy would keep Erik's promise. It was the least she could do. So everyday Dandy walked over to the Strauss' side of town, usually with some kind of baked good so she didn't feel too intrusive, and sat with Sarah while they watched the Games.
The Bloodbath was quite an experience. At first Dandy had been a walking bundle of nerves but by the first tribute hit the ground she started to relax. Erik managed to slip through all the carnage seemingly unscathed. It was difficult to follow just him when the feed kept changing cameras. It'd zoom in on a particular bloody fight and Dandy would sigh and tap her foot against the floor until the District Twelve tribute was back into view. The larger boy from eight Erik was with was one of the first to fall in the Bloodbath. As long as it isn't him she thought, which is probably a horrible thing to think but Dandy didn't even know that kid- her mind was focused on the tribute and his sister.
The first day of the Games came and went and when dawn was just starting to stretch over District Twelve, Dandy Gordon was already walking down the dirt roads to Erik's house. Her fingers curled around the edges of a plate holding pitiful excuses for cookies. She had made them the night before, but the Gordon's rations were nearly gone. Without telling anyone at home, Dandy had taken out another tessera in her name to have enough flour to make the dessert. Only she had fallen asleep while waiting for them to cook and ended up burning them.
So here she was, sitting on the Strauss' couch once again, her plate of burnt monstrosities sitting on the end table. Her blue eyes glued to the television as the news anchors reported on the night and went over the list of the dead once again. Erik had not perished in the night- that's all that matters.
Finally, the cameras turned to the tributes and some of them were in some pretty unfortunate situations. Fighting spiders, losing limbs- all kinds of horrid things the Games dish out. Then the time came to cover Erik and his ally's journey. Dandy didn't particularly the boy from Ten. He was crude, violent and flat out insane but she figured Erik knew what he was doing... hopefully.
Chewing on her bottom lip, Dandy watched as the two tributes from Seven hacked at the boy from Ten. Suddenly, everything was bloody. The ax Erik held in his hands was splattered with blood and the boy from seven was on the ground, his leg lying next to him. Gasping, Dandy sat on the edge of her seat completely forgetting her duty to comfort Sarah. She was too wired right now to calm herself down, much less anyone else.
The boy from ten started screaming bloody murder and then Erik bent over and- done. The fight was all over. The girl from Seven ran off through the bamboo stalks and the boy- Deimos- sank into the dirt, his head lying with his leg.
Slapping a hand over her own mouth, Dandy looked on in terror. Erik isn't a killer- how could he have done such a thing? The girl held back the raging emotions thundering inside her head as the camera zoomed in on Erik's face. He didn't have the eyes of a killer, yet there he was, blood smeared over his cheekbone. Then he was gone, the camera turned on some other tribute.
Erik Strauss just decapitated a boy. Erik Strauss just killed somebody. Without a single word to Sarah, Dandy ran into the bathroom, her stomach unsettled by the sight of the limbs lying in the dirt without a body to use them. Sweat covered her face, as her mind spun and her stomach revolted. The image of Erik's hatchet cutting through the boy's neck replayed in the girl's head over and over again until Dandy couldn't take it anymore. Her disgustingly burnt cookies tasted even worse coming back up.
He didn't just kill someone out of self defense- he chopped their head off Dandy thought leaning against the bathroom door. But it means he has a good chance of coming back home... Dandy wished the world was painted in black and white instead of a million different shades of gray. I wonder how Sarah is taking it...
Sarah! She had left her there all by herself! Jumping to her feet, Dandy slipped back through the hallway her entire body protesting the quick jerky actions. "I'm so sorry- Sarah how- I- Erik- you... How are you?" Words were hard to come by, and Dandy's guilt swelled up inside of her like a balloon. She was here for Sarah, not herself. She had to comfort Sarah, not matter how gruesome the situation.
