Darkness envelopes me as I gain consciousness from a dreamless sleep. I've slept well the last two nights I've been here but it's been very quiet, no sounds have penetrated the walls of my room when I'm used to hearing the muffled snores of my family and the soft purrs of Delany as she sleeps next to my head. I allow myself to just float in the darkness between unconsciousness and consciousness for a few moments before a growling in my stomach forces me to blink open my eyes and face the new day. There's little natural light in the room where I'm staying but I don't mind it, it's kind of nice not being woken up by the sun.

Cold water rains over me as I take a cold shower and do my hair. It's refreshing and wakes me up. I get out of the shower and find my training outfit laid out for me. Well, I guess it's one less choice to make I decide. I slip the fabric over my head and body before making my way out to the dining hall. The grumbling in my stomach does not cease. I pick up a croissant and smear some butter on it, I have a craving for pastry. The croissant melts in my mouth and I smile, enjoying the rich taste of it.

Once I'm finished eating, I call the elevator and step into it. Since coming here, it's been one of my least favorite things because like I've probably stated before, I hate heights. Just relax, it's only a few flights, you'll be to the bottom before you know it I tell myself, trying to calm my breath. I've never liked heights. I close my eyes and wait for the elevator to open. When it does, I can't explain the feeling of relief that washes through me as I step into the training gym. Tomorrow, I take the god damned stairs I won't though, that's the problem. I'll just keep taking that damned glass elevator again. Why the hell did they make the elevator all glass anyways, do they not realize that maybe some tributes are afraid of heights? I feel annoyance claw at my stomach as I stalk over to one of the training stations. I should probably practice with some axes or something.

Just as I'm about to start practicing, I notice the boy from district nine sitting alone. I wonder why he's on his own I think, tossing one of the axes. It embeds itself into the stomach of a dummy and I feel a little bit better. This training will hopefully help me get some of my annoyance out. I retrieve the axe and throw again, this time hitting the dummy in the head, an instant kill. much better I think, putting the axe back on the table. I pad towards the boy from nine cautiously, not sure whether he wants some company or not. "Hey, mind if I join you?" I ask.

Training is coming to an end, and I don't feel anymore confident than I did when I first stepped foot into the training center. As I walk past the other stations, the tributes seemed to have grasped at least one thing they will have excelled at. I haven't excelled at anything except plants maybe. I shudder slightly as a chill runs down my spine. My head faces the floor in shame as my cheeks start burning bright red. Is this what it feels like knowing your about to die, and there's nothing that can be done to prevent it? I never dreamed I would feel like this right now knowing I'm about to die. Maybe the death will be quick and painless. Maybe they'll take mercy on me. The pieces of my heart will never be repaired while I'm alive here. My heart is shattered into too many pieces for it to grow back together. I hope to die in peace.

I slump down into the shadows of the gym wanting to get away from everyone. A corner I can sit by myself without anyone seeing me. I shouldn't have talked to anyone. I shouldn't have tried to make friends because everyone here wants to survive. I never had friends at home. I never tried to make friends because I was too busy reading. I was stuck in my books I missed the chance to make friends. But, I didn't miss the chance now. I've met some amazing people that I would have never met before the games. I've met people I wish I never met. I met one that I consider my brother. Jim, is my brother. I bring my knees into my chest before I slowly lay my head on my knees. Jabber, help me. Show me a sign. Please. "Hey, mind if I join you?" I sit up slightly at the sound of a girls voice breaks through the silence.

I stare at her trying to see if I've talked to her before. I have seen her around. I've seen everyone here, but I haven't talked to many. I wrap my arms around my knees as I contort my face into one that shows no emotion, one that will be hard to read. I've never mastered hiding my true emotions. I might as well start now. I don't want to talk to anyone else. It'll only make being in the arena hard. It'll make trying to kill them impossible. It's impossible anyway. "Yeah. Go ahead." My voice is quiet as the words escape. Maybe she'll tell me what she wants and just go away. I scoot over a tiny bit as my hand makes a patting motion telling her she can sit down if she pleases. "I don't care if you join as long as nobody else is following you." I was raised to be polite, and I must be polite to have some respect for others before I die.

"Yeah. Go ahead." his voice is quiet and I take a seat next to him. "I don't care if you join as long as nobody else is following you." I look behind me, just to make sure none of my allies have decided to follow me. "Nope, I'm the only one." I can feel a sadness inside of him. He's a Jay, I wonder if he's related to Jabber Jay, the first tribute dead last year in the games. I feel a stab of pity for this boy, he's clearly not happy to be here. I watch as he pulls his knees to his chest and wraps his arms around them. "I'm Siana by the way, I don't think I introduced myself before" I say, my voice soft.

I watch as she sits down beside me after reassuring me nobody followed her. It makes me feel better knowing that I can be alone. I'm almost all alone. Just this girl that's setting here. I take a deep breath lowering my head on my knees again. I can feel tears flooding my eyes waiting for the thunder to release them onto the ground. I try to blink them away, but more returns. The faint sound of my pulse echoes through my brain as I close my eyes. Did Jabber feel this alone? Did he feel like nobody cared about him as he took his last breaths? Sometimes, I think silence is louder than any word being said, and right now silence surrounds us until she speaks. "I'm Siana by the way, I don't think I introduced myself before."

Her voice is soft and calm. It's like she can see the pain that's growing inside me. At first, I can feel my blood boiling as she introduces herself. I don't want to know anymore names. I don't want to know the names of those I'll be trying to kill very soon, but I quickly calm myself down. I raise my head up and look at her. I try to keep a straight face, but I know it's obvious I'm not in the best mood. I place a small, genuine smile in my face. "Hey, Siana, I'm Storm. It's nice to meet you." My voice is quiet and calm as I raise a hand for a hand shake. It's polite to show respect no matter what. "I do wish it was on different terms though."
