Listen~
She wandered, her hands shoved deep in her pockets as she walked. Already, the sun sank far, far below the horizon, and she found herself out just as curfew fell. Normally, Adrestria Jasper was particularly careful to avoid detection by the local Peacekeepers- it could hurt your chances of volunteering, after all. Nervously, the girl swallowed, hugging her jacket closer to her stocky form, the hood rising to cover her blonde hair. Sure, she had been training, not wandering around outside looking for Morphling like others she knew.
But they did not distinguish true troublemakers from the few trapped unluckily outside at this time of night. Adrestria knew her father would be frustrated, to boot. He would unhappily accuse her of staying out late for- god forbid- a boy. Ugh.
The female shuddered at the thought. The oldest male in her family, (The ONLY male in her family...) liked to tease his eldest daughter- especially since Harmonia seemed to be in a committed relationship already- and she was only fourteen! The girl sighed, and wandered hurriedly down the path in the near darkness, her heart hammering in her chest.
There was not much the girl feared. Mostly, in her sixteen years of life, the things that made her skin crawl had been people. The darkness in people- especially watching the more brutal of the Peacekeepers on the televisions. Lately, her mind had shifted from adoring the capitol to starting, very slowly, to pick apart her distorted view.
The games, the slaughter, fearing for her middle sister. Everything changed her view. It was one thing to allow a fully grown eighteen year old compete for glory, but a twelve year old? Especially a young, impressionable thing caused her to shiver. What if Harmonia's name had been called? I couldn't have taken her place this year... she thought, her hands rising to pull her loose hair into a tight ponytail as she walked.
The cool night air shifted about her as she hurried into a dark park, the grass on either side black as the sky above. At least, that was beautiful tonight. The moon, a silver orb hovering far above in the sky shone magnificently high. In a garden of shadows she moved, her form bathed in the milky light cast from above.
She loved the night, truly. It was a shame the upper hands in the district weren't comfortable with the youth outside at such a time. A cool breeze lifted her bangs from her nearly glowing eyes. Hurry, hurry... Rumors spread of some terrible things lurking in the darkness. Those cast from normal society, deemed 'Unworthy' or 'Strange.' Would I be cast for some of my... Rebellious thoughts? No. Taken to the capitol to have such things removed... Her skull hung as her feet shifted, faster and faster until she nearly jogged to her destination.
Something in her chest triggered, and she found her form sprinting, her footfalls heavy in the night. A complete and utter terror struck her heart, her mouth dry, a cold sweat forming all throughout her body. Anxiety- what if they took her away from her family. What would she do then? She would become a husk if they caught her, if they interrogated her for being out so late at night. She was never the best at hiding things, especially guilt.
And she had felt particularly guilty for her thoughts lately.
