he has time to think in the brief moment before he falls - he doesn't go flying down the remainder of the hallway like a projectile.People say that the hospital is really a place where they lock up the loonies. And there's even that rumor where Avoxes who were meant to be Avoxes but were too tough to be Avoxes are locked up here. Amongst other equally strange (and some even more terrifying) rumors.
So it's not a surprise that Aiden has never had the gall to break into the actual asylum before. Sure, he's wanted to (many, many times before) but he's always been much too nervous about getting caught. There's a big difference between sneaking onto a racetrack and sneaking into an actual asylum. I mean, there are crazy people in there! He's not afraid that they'll hurt him, not at all. He'll invite it, that's why he's there isn't it?
(It's more like he's afraid of being diagnosed as one of them, of having his freedom taken away from him. Isn't he?)
The part of the hospital Aiden is currently in is dark. Almost too dark for a place that's lit up like a concert stage, he's not sure why he thinks it's dark but it really is. He can't explain it... it's not visually dark, just... dark. Not really dreary but hair-raising. Chilling in its own pristine way.
Terrifying.
Or maybe it's just the other kids' stories getting to me. Aiden shakes his head. Buck up. He's here for the thrill, that's it. Maybe get someone to bruise him up a little, a souvenir from his daring escapade. But really, he just needs to make one round and then he'll be heading out of there. Just one round, Aiden, I can do this.
He tries to focus on the result - the feeling of extreme exhilaration (and maybe some not-so-sane hysterical laughter) that will rush through his veins like a drug - and finds that he just wants out.
That's when he hears a sound behind him.
Aiden feels his blood turn cold and the hairs on the back of his neck rise as he imagines a salivating, crazed creature with unfocused eyes and a subconsciously bared grin starting for him. Move! He can't. He can't move, he's frozen.
It's going to eat you! he screams at himself in his mind. There's a sound that he thinks is a heavy footstep headed his way. Aiden flips out and bolts.
He runs nowhere.
He doesn't know where he's going, in all honesty. After all, he's never been here - all he planned to do was take one lap of the floor he's on and leave the same way he came in. (He's sure the place is circular.) That was the plan, though it seems now it has been shot down. He almost regrets it, it's a pretty solid plan if he doesn't take into account the scary thing born from his imagination that's probably still after him.
(He's not a child, it's a legitimate fear.)
As he runs, a thought creeps into his head that makes him slow: There are no doctors or nurses here... (Maybe that's because the patients ate them! the terrified part of him screams. He has the feeling that part of him really wants to shake him, only he can't shake himself, can he?) Aiden slows just enough that when he trips - What on Panem is that?
As it is, he lands face-first on the ground and thinks that maybe, just maybe, this might be the last time he'll ever breathe.[/blockquote][/blockquote]
"Who does he think he is?"
If that's the worst you got
Better put your fingers back to the keys
One night and one more time
Thanks for the memories
