The wind blew violently across the district, kicking up an assortment of rocks and other debree as it moved, flinging it every which way like a toddler throwing a tantrum. The atmosphere overhead reflected an angry wall of deep grey clouds, lightning snaking through at any interval they could find. A deep explosion rocked the air, and a deep echo rumbled off for miles. Finally, the first few drops fell. Slow, a trickle at first, growing into sheets, then blankets and lastly, a wall of water. It poured and poured and poured, the music it created filing the district.
The girl sat on the edge of her bed as the rain lessened to a few sputters. Again, she could not sleep. For the fourth night in a row, she felt like she needed a walk. Carefully she stood in the darkness, and dug through her drawers, pulling out jeans, a button up shirt, and a heavy jacket a few sizes too big.
A hand me down, of course, from her father. She tugged on the articles, mind wandering with racing thoughts. Inhaling, then sighing long and low, she made her way out of her room, peeking down the hall to be sure the oldest male of the family snored loudly. Once she was assured, she left through the front door, her footfalls echoing loudly down the road as she walked.
The rain calmed her thoughts, always. her hands rested in her jacket pockets, and she couldn't help but smile. Her breath rose before her as she breathed, and her mind could finally clear itself. The wind tasted clean, clear, like she longed her thoughts to be. The silence of the sleeping district caused her heart to flutter, knowing she was one of the only living things out and about on such a night.
Her feet carried her deep into the district, to an open area of park land. She took a seat on a soaking wet bench, not caring about the feeling of wet and cold on her rear. She drew the hood of the coat up, past her blonde locks, silver eyes reflecting the lightning in the sky. Now, she could sit and think for a few moments in the serenity of the rain.
Think she did- about everything. About how alone she felt, how fake her 'friends' acted around her. How she could not seem to please her coaches. Subconsciously, slim fingers rose to pet a scrape that began on her forehead and trailed down her cheek nearly to her jaw.
The only thing she could really count on was her father. He said he would always love her, and she could believe it. Her legs crossed, and she pulled her coat tighter around her body. A few drops of water splashed down from above, the female's gaze rising to stare at the sky, a forlorn look covering her countenance. Once again, the storm seemed to be picking up. The girl pondered for a moment, debating weather or not she should risk staying out tonight, or head home. She had not yet caught the flu this year, and knew she would likely catch a cold if she didn't leave now. But... She could finally think out here in the park, by herself. No kids, no dogs, no boys wandering by, breaking her concentration.
The less logical side of her mind won out, and she stood, wandering to the north end of the park. She inhaled the smell of the wet grass, and ducked under a white gazebo, sitting at a dry, wooden table there instead. Again, the rain picked up, growing louder and more ferocious, careening down to the earth with a vengeance, and the female allowed her thoughts to wander free once again.
