Appearance:
The Bannermans’ family has this trait going on, you know, you can recognize one pretty easily in a crowd. It isn’t exactly a rare one, but not that many people are like that in District 10. Most of them are blond, tall, handsome and charismatic. And some of the lucky ones even have blue or gray eyes, but they’re rarer, and probably mixed with some other blood. Now, that gives you a hint on how one of the Bannerman children will look like, no?Personality:
18 year old Lorelei Bannerman corresponds to this ‘stereotype’ perfectly. The girl is 5 feet seven, not all that remarkable, but it’s something. Her hair is, according to her, her best feature. It is blond, mixed with some other dirtier colour, and lightens up in summer. She works in a farm, so she keeps it untidy most of the time, creating the messy look. This farmworker has pretty eyes, a deep blue colour that nearly always seem lost. Luckyness gave her straight teeth that she pays special attention to, and kissable lips, as some have said. This doesn’t mean she liked her body. Any flaw she found was more important than all the beauties. Her ears, for example, were too far from her head, and so when her hair was tied, that was the only thing Lorelei could see. Her nose, althought less a problem, was not as small as her family members, and she found it disturbing.
Lorelei is the average teenager, with the usual trust issues, who am I really?, and questioning everything, like Panem’s existance. These questions, either they be on philosophy, science or the government, she’ll keep them to herself. She’s seen what happens when you start having a mind of your own; you don’t have a tongue. Well, let’s go deeper than just the ‘average’ teenager. We’re in District 10, after all, and so surviving is a more common trait than anything else.History:
First off, the girl isn’t very understanding, making her seem cruel and judgemental when everyone else says ‘he had a reason’. She doesn’t appreciate whiny people and will be quick to either a) avoid them or b) shut their mouths. Her own family having had their share of problems, Lorelei still thinks you should keep them for yourself. But she isn’t a bad person, just a kid who has matured too quickly. She’s known to help other farmers a lot. Althought having a little trust issues after certain experiences, blondie’s still a very open person who forgives easily and tries to make the best out of anything. Loyal, she’ll stick up for her friends no matter what. Lorelei still tends to bond quicker with animals and has a deep respect for any of them, and still feels it when she butchers one, knowing one life had to be taken away in order to make another live.
Lorelei isn’t the smartest cookie in the shed, and so school was torture. It is harder when you can barely figure out a simple math equation or even write a page essay. She compensates this lack of ‘intelligence’ with a touch of good humour and outgoingness. The girl is still shy when it comes to relationships, and she’s never had anything really stable. She wouldn’t mind finding the right man and marrying him, having children and such, but maybe she isn’t ready for this.
The third Bannerman child to see the light was Lorelei, at the wrong time. It was February, known as the start of the lambing. Ewes were giving birth around this time, several cows had also birthed recently, and there were now bunches of ducklings, poult, chicks and even the few goslings. Needless to say it was a busy time, and a baby was not something that any family member wanted to take care of at the moment. Her mother was still a caring mother and managed to overcome this difficulty with the help of Yasmine, her sister. It remained this way for her first few months, the baby girl being passed around the family until things returned to normal.Codeword: odair
At the age of six, Lorelei had already decided she didn’t want to go to school and just wanted to work at the farm, with her animal friends. As it went, she kept repeating the same words. « I’m only going to do good in school if you give me a horse. » Quite the demanding child, as horses were wanted and thus, expensive. The Bannerman family barely made the quotas Panem imposed them, and a horse wouldn’t bring anything, not meat, wool or eggs. Foaling would take too long and mares were prone to sicknesses and they were fragile all the time. As much as they loved their youngest darling, they just couldn’t afford a horse. At twelve, Lorelei got fed up of waiting and took matters into her own hands. When she talked about it around the table, both her older brothers started laughing at her. They were arrogant farmhands, working efficiently and quick. Her parents agreed, with faint hope of it ever happening. She showed them all wrong. At fourteen, Lorelei had trained Hipster, a two year old cow, and could now ride her in town and round up the cattle like any good horse. Reckon Hipster wasn’t as fast as a horse, maybe didn’t have that much of a personality, but Lorelei understood the cow. After all, the girl was stuck in District 10 and a horrifying government would control her life as much as possible. Hipster the cow was stuck on the little farm and a family of humans would control her short cow existance. It wasn’t that much of a difference, really.
She felt lucky to never have been chosen as a tribute, or recruit, and kept praying for it not to happen this year. She was eighteen, this was her last time she could. Hopefully, her God, which really had no image but was more of a vague representation of life, would let her stay with her family. Should she be chosen, Lorelei knew she would never win. She didn’t have that fighting spirit in her like the others the HG showed. She would probably just hide in a tree forever and die at the first problem. Which meant she had to absolutely not be chosen this time around. All in all, her life story was boring, nothing that should excite anyone. Her family of five was poor, owned 14 cows, one bull, 26 sheep, 4 goats, 16 chickens, 6 ducks, 4 turkeys, and now 4 geese. Which you can say, is a lot. How were they poor if they could ‘afford’ feeding so many? Quotas were demanding. But the farm the Bannermans’ had was ideal for raising, the grass was rich and any animal they could spare was either butchered or sold. Now, I’ll let her continue her life.
