Danika Mandell [District 10]

Danika is short for her age, being 4'9. She is somewhat underweight at 73 pounds. She has slightly pale skin compared to some of her other family members, but it's nothing abnormal. In her childhood, she had freckles, but now they have faded, only barely visible, and only if you look hard. Her hair had recently been cut, barely brushing her shoulders. It's brown and straight, just like her father. She has grey eyes, with only a slight tint of blue and green in them, taking after her mother. She's not very strong, often relying on her stronger siblings for help.
What she lacks in strength, however, she makes up with her great immune system. many times through her childhood, she would be the only child in her family without an illness. Though this would mean taking care of her siblings, she was happy to have a job to do. She often wears casual dresses and skirts, but she can wear pants if it would help her. Dani also has a faded purple necktie she wears often. She likes short sleeved shirts, but not if they're TOO short. She's not very fast, but she can hide in small places, being short, underweight, and all. She can't swim, even though she has a creek in her house's property. It's not like this stops her from just chilling out in the water, though.

Dani wasn't ever really the most social. She would rather talk to the animals her family owned than her few actual friends. She tries to help her family whenever possible, as she isn't the most notable of her siblings. She's shy, but is friendly if approached. She can get really, really angry at people though, often those who have, to her, a certain tone in their voice, or in other words, being obnoxious. She really dislikes getting in trouble, so she often avoids activities that would do just that. She fears things like fire, Bulls (bad experience), and bees.
When she's happy, she often sings or hums to herself, playing on the rope swing near the creek. When she's sad, she sort of cries alone for a while, if it's serious, and then goes to hang out with the livestock for a while either way. When angry, she keeps in to herself, then gets sad about it later. She gets scared easily, and when she's scared, she'll try to get her mind off the subject.
She really likes the chickens her family owns, often treating them like friends, and naming each one of them. She also likes the two cats, Maple and Jill. She hopes to be able to name the kittens Jill is pregnant with. She's smart, but not at math. Her memory isn't the greatest, and often she will only remember useless tidbits of information, and forget most of the useful stuff. She often tries to make sure that in case of a dangerous situation that she would have the advantage if things escalated.

Danika was born on a cool spring morning, which is good, as being born in the winter wouldn't have been very nice. She was 5th in birth order. She was raised on the family farm, and through her childhood she discovered every quirk that farm had, from the stash of valuables in the attic to Hannie the hen's nesting spot in the roof of the chicken coop. When she was 5, she was at a neighbors house when the bull there escaped and killed someone, also causing property damage. From that event she is now overly cautious when around bulls.
Her parents always believed in having plenty of children, so if one of them died for whatever reason, the others would still be there and be useful. Her parents, Mitchell and Rachel Mandell, are loving parents, if a bit crazy. Mitchell is an utter workaholic, selling whatever isn't shipped off to the capitol. Rachel is rather sickly at the present, but she tries her best to bond with her 8 children. Danika has 4 older siblings. Michael, age 20, lives away from home, but still relies on the rest of his family for food and money. Ben, age 18, is very socially awkward. Betty, age 16, is probably the most kind in the family. Nicole, age 14, is the smartest. There are 3 younger siblings. Amanda, age 12, outgoing and optimistic. Thomas, age 8, quiet, very in tune with nature, and often wanders off by himself. And the youngest is Rodney, age 6, who has no sense of being polite. The family gets along well even though they fight a lot.
The family owns 27 egg laying chickens, two cats, one of whom is pregnant, and a dog named Luke. There used to be 32 chickens, but in a span of a few weeks 5 of them dissapeared. The family has upped the security of the chicken coop and the problem appears to have stopped. Danika's favourite chicken is Meg, a young chicken that is brown with white speckles. Her siblings, with the exeption of Thomas, Nicole, and Betty, tease her over her love of the chickens. The family isn't the richest, but they have enough to support themselves, and food shortages don't last more than a month. Life has been good, and so far, no one in the family has been reaped.
