Scarlette Primrose

The TV at my grandparents house droned on about the games. I wasn't really interested, it was just another games I wasn't in although, somehow, I felt like I should care because an acquaintance of mine, Darren, had been reaped. They were covering a fight between him and a boy from District ten, Mantel Scoff I believe his name was. It's obvious that Darren is going to lose. I feel like I should be sad, like I should feel some sort of emotion at the passing of him, but I don't feel much. If anything, I feel relief, he'd been nothing but a flirt when I'd known him and had tried to put moves on me. I felt a pang of guilt in the bottom of my stomach but pushed it down, I was kind of glad he was gone.

As the killing blow came, I watched his good-byes. In true Darren style, he was still showing off, Jesus Christ, does he ever know when to give up? I sighed. “ Darren Dublin District one Career. Ready to die, but not yet ready to have someone else take the credit for killing him. I love You sammy. I love you Scar. Believe it or not I also love Emery.” Darren, what the fuck? I thought, anger bubbling up inside of me. I watched as he blew me a kiss and felt disgust well up inside of me. Then, to top off his death, he performed a back flip. What an idiot I thought, my mind filling with annoyance. He was embarrassing our district, a district that was all about pride and honour, he was bringing dishonor to our district.

I stood up from where I sat on the floor, untangling my limbs from the pretzel I'd put myself in to, and walked out the door, needing to get my anger out on something. I headed to the training center, a place I knew Phenom would no doubt be training for the next games and entered the training center, walking straight towards the swords station and picking up a short sword I'd trained with much of my life. I held it in my hands before swinging it at one of the test dummies and severing the dummies head. It felt good to be holding a weapon and having an outlet for my anger. As I trained, I kept an eye out for Phenom, wondering where he was. As soon as I spotted him, I put the sword into a sheath on my belt and padded over to him. "Phenom, hey" I called. Phenom and I had been rivals for the longest of time but I respected him a lot, he was a good career and was strong. I smiled coolly.

I watch as Darren fights against some other tribute. Right now i'm at the academy, but I've taken a break from training to watch the games. Seeing Darren alive isn't a surprise. I must of drilled into his head how important being a career is. Winning the games would be an honor to bring home. I remember meeting Opal the victor from the previous games. Seeing her in person has driven me to train much harder than I previously have been doing. Looking at what she's done, I cant help but to admire everything that happened. She's done what I've always dreamt of doing and that is winning the hunger games for my district. I must of dozed off or something because when I look back, I see Darren has been killed.

Instinctively my hand shoots out from my arm and I let loose a punch on a nearby wall. What the fuck Darren. You are a serious disgrace to district one. You should of let someone else volunteer to take you spot. You're lucky about the quell or so help you I would of thrown you off the stage and taken the spot myself. Rage boils up inside of me and I lose it. I clear the weapons off a nearby table before lifting it up and throwing it as far as I can. A loud crash indicates the table must be broken which brings a smile to my face. The weapons scatter over the floor, but I don't give a damn right now. I pick up my trusty trident that I've trained with ever since that fight with Scar. I throw my trident at the neck of a dummy when I hear her voice. Phenom, Hey! I sprint to grab my trident before turning to meet her. "Hey there Scar. Did you see that embarrassment Darren die?"

"Hey there Scar. Did you see that embarrassment Darren die?" He asked. I nodded. "A disgrace to this district. He even blew me a kiss, the nerve" I made an 'ew' face and looked at him. It would appear that he's taking a break, I suppose he works hard every day to train for the games just like I train everyday for my performance and on top of that for the games. I look down at my leg, which I'd stupidly broken a few months back, during the summer time, and smiled. It was almost back to full strength, rigorous dance boot camp and career training really seems to help when it comes to that sort of thing. Ella had insisted on me training the moment the cast was off, putting me through a lot of exercises meant to build strength up in my legs; walking, leg lifts, etc. I shake my head. "I know we aren't supposed to speak ill of the dead but I'm kind of glad he's gone. Now he won't always be fucking flirting with me. Although, it's a disgrace how he died I think. He was beaten by that little pipsqueak from ten with OI, he should have been able to handle him" I said harshly. I looked at Phenom. It had been a while since I'd seen him but we'd remained rivals. this seemed like it would be a good way to bond, venting about Darren.

That idiot Darren has brought disgrace to the district. That fucking idiot! I wish he was alive so I could snap his neck. I wanted to be the one to kill him. I realize the trident is still in my hands when I walk over to Scar. Would she realize it's the same exact one I fought with her? How I wish Darren was the one who was wounded with my trident. I remember clearly the fight. My cockiness ended up costing me part of my leg. I don't care at all that it happened. Losing my leg would be a price to pay to win which I'm willing to pay. Anger boils upside of me and before I know, my trident is flying toward a dummy.

I agreed with him, knowing he was capable, even though I hadn't actually seen it first hand I'd heard things. "I don't doubt it. I guess we still have Emery who's actually making the district proud unlike Darren. She's a Moreno, though, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised" I said. I respected the Moreno's, they were what families should be like; career families that trained all of their children to fight and win. Emery, from what I'd seen, was pretty bad ass. She'd gone into the blood bath and hadn't used a weapon, she'd still managed to do a lot of damage. Today, she'd actually burned a little girl to death. That was a little gruesome for my taste but she'd done it without a weapon. "She's what a career should be; a fighter and someone who's not afraid to fight" I said, looking at him. I knew Phen was a hard-core career, I hoped he agreed with me on Emery.

The name sounded familiar, but I didn't recognize the name that much. "Ah Emery. She's exactly what a career should be. Showing no fear. I wouldn't be afraid to snap her neck either. I'm afraid of no one. The trident. I felt like apart of me was missing. I've trained so much with the trident in my hands that without it there, I feel incomplete. The trident. The one thing I care about in this world is my trident. That's when I realize the trident isn't in my hands. Its imbedded in a dummies neck. I sprint toward it. It shouldn't leave my hands.

"So Scar. Next year you'll still be here while I will be in the games avenging the pathetic showing by one Darren Dublin. That kid deserved to die. At least Emery is doing what I should be doing right now." My fingers slide over the trident. How I would love to kill someone with it. The possibility of this exact trident being in the games would be practically impossible, but I know if I had it with me in the games, I'd be hard to kill. I look at Scar with fire in my eyes. She would probably know the reason for my fire. If not than it would be amusing to see her scared of retreat. I doubt she would want another fight. I'm ready for a fight with anyone at anytime.
